Should I allow the pingbacks that come from hyperlinking to my own blog posts?

    I don’t understand pingbacks much except to know that they are good when they come from someone linking to my blog posts.

    My question is this, though: Should I approve pingbacks when I am the one linking to my own blog post? If not, when why does WordPress always send me these emails that would allow me to approve them?

    Any insight on how pingbacks help by blog in rankings, as well as any answers to the question above would be really helpful. I’d be grateful for any advice.
