should i be transferring my domain to wordpress?

Hi! So, I’ve been wanting to relaunch my blog, and was hoping to offer a subscription plan for readers of my work. i wanted to start off by my ensuring that my site is secured (HTTPS), and apparently this service is included in my Managed WordPress Account via godaddy. After a long run-around with godaddy, i’m being told that in order to activate this service, it would cost an additional amount (for a separate SSL product). I would like to be able to ensure that my site is secure. Does it make most sense for me to transfer my domain to wordpress directly? what additional costs would be involved? would i need to pay for both wordpress and jetpack? I’m seeing that there are various plans available through wordpress but don’t want to be paying for redundant services. thank you!

  • Hi there, we’re happy to help clarify a few things!

First, if you transferred it to us, you would be paying us instead of GoDaddy + Jetpack. All of Jetpack’s features, plus hosting, maintenance, and support, are included in our services based on your plan. You can find our pricing here:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing

If your site is already built out with plugins and outside themes and what not, you would need a Business Plan to transfer it as is — mainly because outside themes and plugins complicate our support and security offerings.

If you’re starting to build it or are fine using our built-in features rather than outside plugins and themes, the Personal or Premium plan would likely be a great fit.

Does that help? We’re happy to help if you have more questions.
