    I am new and I want to use wordpress so I can then post to my web site and to other locations. Should I get my own .com domain name and host by GoDaddy. Does this help for SEO or any other reason to use my own versus a wordpress..com

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I have wordpress and wish I’d never done it. I can’t get any emails and can’t get support to answer me. I will never use any service in the future that doesn’t have a phone number on the website.

    @ jaykaiser: The biggest advantage is that WordPres’ Staff will take care of all technical maintenance. You do not need to worry about hacking, malware, spam, upgrading and more.

    @ thefortworthpress: That’s unserious. No free blogging service will offer phone support. If you have questions you should open a thread inhere. Why haven’t you done that?

    If you want notifications of comments,

    1. Go to settings general and make sure you are checking the email address that is listed there.

    2. Make sure that the email notifications are not getting caught by the email spam filter at your email provider.

    3. Go to settings > discussion and make sure you have it set up to notify you when there is a comment posted.

    So is it possible to earn money with wordpress.com? i know as no.
    What would you suggest?

  • Unknown's avatar

    The answer is no ads are not allowed on a wordpress.com blog

    thefortworthpress, you can take the domain elsewhere I believe. I believe GoDaddy has a phone number. My brother has domains there and he’s never had a problem there with his domains.

    deliciousbites, you can make money if you’re selling something you made yourself like writing a book.

    And most never really make any money with Adsense. It’s a myth. Best to get individual sponsors when you have enough traffic to justify having ads.

    Oh wait. Sleep deprived. *slaps self*

    thefortworthpress, you can email support or ask on here at the forum for help. The read the forum. An actual person replies back too unlike other services.

    *coughs … Google/Blogspot*

    @deliciousbites
    You have asked about monetizing your blog and we cannot do that here. See types of blogs allowed and not allowed linked to in this support entry for clarification http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

    IMO it’s not likely that you will be happy here if that is your aim. I suggest that you hire a web host for $5 – $7 per month, purchase a domain, and get a free software download from wordpress.orh. There are significant differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org which are explained here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Money. What money? Most bloggers don’t really make any money. At least a free blog won’t cost you anything…

    @universalgeni
    Ahh … yes but the web is full of Adsense millionaires, don’t you know? ;)
    Setting levity aside when any blogger tells me they want to make money from their blog I send them to hire a web host and download free software from wordpress.ORG.

    I know some bloggers who have blogs with PageRanks between 4 and 6 who and get 25,000 – 30,000 page views monthly. What they make form Adsense covers their hosting costs and provides a little spending money and that’s it.

    It would be more interesting if you could chose to earn points and not money. Then the points could be exchanged for an upgrade here or things like that. In my little corner of the world the tax authorities makes this kind of income a nightmare of bookkeeping, documentation an such stuff.

    Google should develop the sytem a little bit…
