Should I just pay a pro? Layout issue.
-
I know nothing. Well, I know html, but that was 18 years ago. I want to set up an insurance sales website. Shoestring, teeny tiny budget. Just getting started in business.
Chose Twenty Sixteen as template. Changed to static because I don’t want a blog. I want a header and some attractive shapes to use as links for car insurance, home insurance and life insurance with a side bar type of box for medigap insurance, which I won’t be saying much about, just gathering contact information.
But I can’t get even the first block/link on my page, I’m so ignorant.
I met an agent who did his own WordPress site and it’s making money. (TexasAutoHome.com) I don’t want to copy him, but I like the fact this his site is clean and clear and everything is easy to see and find.
I can’t seem to find anything in the Forum or on YouTube that addresses my particular issue.
I need a mentor…or should I pay someone? Paying someone would delay my website by several months while I try to raise money. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every theme has a detailed theme description page. This one is at https://wordpress.com/theme/twentysixteen and that’s where setup instructions and theme feature details are found, as well as the link to the live demo site for the theme.
A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being page based to being post based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read >

You may want to explore some other themes like these
https://wordpress.com/themes?s=business+Businessre: switching themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site, you tohttp://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php
*Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog. wp-admin/themes.php
We have a preview function. No content is lost when switching themes on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. It does not matter if the site is private or public.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the username account that registered the site go to https://wordpress.com/themes and type in your key words, or the name of theme.
If you are not logged in under the correct WordPress.COM username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into another account
If you did not register the site and do not have the required access you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them either act, or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Thank you. I have tried changing themes but when I click on the “Try and Customize”, the theme layout changes every time so it’s not like the theme I chose anymore, it’s yet another unsuitable layout. What are your thoughts on this problem, please.
