Should I move .com site over to .org with assisted wordpress help?
-
Hello, I run a Scottish national blogsite on the free .com version and the traffic is increasing steadily to over 250 hits per day. We are a part of a franchise and there is a UK website but it is pretty static and every centre (200) has it’s own page to edit but I realise the importance of creating fresh content and some of our blog posts are appearing very well on Google search results. I now want to use this blogsite as more of a website for Scotland and our 28 centres. My question is should I set up a new .org website or pay for the new guided transfer over? I want more freedom with cusom themes and SEO plugins so I know I need to move over. I want to avoid duplicate content so would it be safer to transfer and upgrade than building a new .org site? I have a colleague who could host this but would I be better going with someone WP recommends? I want to keep my good search results so not sure which is best. Please note, I am not a SEO expert but an English teacher with a keen interest so need all the help I can get LOL!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you want to use a theme not available on WordPress.com, or plugins that add functionality that isn’t already here, then moving to a self-hosted site might be a good option for you. If you’re not 100% sure, you can review the differences at http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
The guided transfer option is a WordPress.com service to assist in the transition to WordPress.org, but is not required to make the move. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/ for what the guided transfer includes, or http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org if you want to handle the move on your own. Either way, you will need to secure your own hosting provider.
Your search engine rankings should not be impacted by the move.
