Should I use WordPress for a DIY/ How to type site? I have 6 questions

    Hey,

Okay so my little site so far is here: http://www.learn-how-to-weld.com

I seem to be getting more and more interested about using WP as a CMS for this site.

    1. Will a WP site as a static paged site be suitable for this type of “How to” page?

    2. Can I make the whole site static. I do not need any blogging capabilities as yet. I can find information about how to make one page static for the home page. But there is no mention of how to make every page static.

    3. Where can I find a basic Theme like this to use? http://performancing.com/ I really like the simplicity of the blue header bar at the top.

    4. What about adsense? Take the above mentioned URL, it and along with other sites all have the “money making” ads on the right hand side of the page. Yet everywhere you go you are told to look at the Google heat map and put all your adds in the top left hand corner, sorta thing?

    5. How can I more my existing html page over to wordpress?

    6. I think I will have a nicer looking site that is easier to work with and might rank higher in the SERP’S as well. Am I expecting too much?

    Peter

Really, we need a link to the blog you are asking about, starting with http://

As for adsense, If you are using a WordPress.com blog, it it a no-no:

If that is a deal-breaker for you to have a wp.com site, please know there are 2 kinds of wordpress:

Re your no.3, in wp.COM you can only use one of the (currently) 75 themes available in your blog’s dashboard. Re your no.4, adsense is not allowed in wp.COM blogs.

Re your no.2, you’ve got a misunderstanding: all pages are “static”, in the sense that they are independent of one another and don’t get displaced by newer ones like posts do. You don’t “make one page static for the home page”: you make your home display a static page instead of your most recent posts.

Re. your no.6, a static front is bad for your ranking.

    Raincoaster,

Hmm yes, I mean the actual WP on my hostgator account.

    Panaghitisadam,

So I just want to have what I have now, but in WP platform. I still wan to have the category’s on the left hand side etc. Just like a normal HTML site but run in wordpress.

Static from is bad for ranking? That sucks, as this is not a blog where a page is updated every day. One the info is up its up. There is no other way about it is there?

You really do need to be over at WordPress.org, not here. If you read what raincoaster and I posted, you would understand the difference.

Pretty much every question we get that uses “CMS” anywhere in there needs to go over there. Even if they’re registered here, they’ll not get what they’re looking for here.

Googled “CMS” and there are quite a few meanings. Content Management System is what I’m assuming it is in this context.

Yes, generally. And the stats we get, for instance, are completely unsuited for that.
