Should my posts be original for SEO?

I am studying to increase traffic and read that I should not use posts of articles other than my own. Is this accurate? Will SE kick me out if I use articles that include linkbacks to business sites?

That’s not accurate at all. It’s the same situation as writing a paper in university. Of course you link to and quote from the most authoritative articles in the most authoritative blogs in your niche because they are your sources and references for the content in your posts.

Whoever told you that may be referring to selecting and linking to effective anchor text by deep linking to your own earlier related posts in your most recent posts on the same topics.
What you definitely want to avoid doing is creating duplicate content across domains as it can and will be detected as attempting to game search engine results. Every post ought to contain in excess of 65% original content so don’t get carried away with republishing material you have published on other sites.
