show a part of my story

I’am now writing a very long story. How can i make it that a part of my story is on the front page and when you click on “read more” you can read the hole story.

If you’re using the Rich Text Editor, you’ll see a row of buttons along the top of the text box as you type. One of them has a dotted line across a page, breaking it into two: put your cursor where you want the break to be and then click this button.

It is not simple, i dont know if i did it right.
I highlighted the text for the next page[the underside of the text], and then i clicked at that thing for ‘more to read'[nr. 13].
I publishd my post and now the rest of the text is gone.

You should not highlight the rest of the text. Just place the cursor where you want the break and hit the button and it will make the break automatically.
There’s a chance the text is still on your clipboard: open a Word or Notepad file and click Edit and paste and maybe the text will show up. If it does, you can just paste it below the break. Otherwise, you’ll have to re-type it all again, sorry.
I always do one thing before I publish a post: I click in the text box and select and copy everything (you can scroll down and hit Copy or you can hit Control A, Control C). Then and only then do I hit Publish. That way if the window dies or there’s a glitch in WordPress or anything, I just have to go back and make a new post and hit Paste and it will all go in, including formatting. Some people save copies in Notepad or Word as well.

Good luck. Make a dummy post, with text that doesn’t matter and then you can practice and delete it when you’re confident.

Yes i did it right!
Thank you all for the hints.
Now ik write my text first in Word, that is better. Also i can check if i misspell the dutch words.
