Show excerpts on front page and on archive pages instead of full posts
-
Hi, I am using the Radcliffe theme. I have ticked the button on the mobile section that says ‘Show excerpts on front page and on archive pages instead of full posts but I wondered if there was that option somewhere for the website version. I have looked everywhere but can’t find it – currently each post just shows the photo and title (with date and comments) but I’d like to have an excerpt as well – is there an option for this on the Radcliffe theme or do I need to change the theme?
Thanks
Sandra

Hi there. Looking at the theme demo, this is the way the theme was designed, so you won’t be able to show excerpts with this particular theme.
Only a very limited number of themes have automatic front page excerpts. You can find a list of them all here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=17#post-1396410
On all other themes we have to insert the more-tag into our posts manually at the point we want them to cut off. Make sure you insert the tag on its own line and that you have no formatting like bold or italics active when you do: https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Ah thanks for that, I did wonder if it was to do with the theme. I’ll have a look at inserting the more-tag. Thanks very much for explaining everything.

You’re welcome :)
Keep in mind inserting the more-tag probably won’t help on your theme, as that theme doesn’t display post content to start with.

okay thanks, i’ll have a look at the link with the other themes, but I do like this one, so might just have to accept it as it is :)
