Show full post on front page
-
We’re using “Origin” as our theme which, by default, shows only an excerpt of any new post on the front page. I understand there’s a piece of html code that can be inserted into text before publishing a post that renders the text and images in full view. Does anyone have the code? And is there any way to edit already published posts to appear full-length?
Many thanks! ArthurThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not all blog themes are designed to display full posts on the front page of the blog. Please read the theme description here > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/origin/
The Origin theme is behaving exactly the way it is designed to behave, which is excerpts only on the front page of the blog but Origin does have an active excerpt box below the post editor, so you can control the length of the excerpt displayed. This is the workaround you can use to override excerpt display on the front page.
You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy the code, paste it into the Excerpt box, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts
This will have to be done on every post. -
Thanks. Timethief, but what is the code for this workaround operation or where can I find it?

Dear Timethief, I have re-read it several times over the last few days — with our I.T. guy too — and still don’t understand. What am I missing here? Thanks, Arthur

THIS IS A KLUDGE
My hope is that someone who knows how to code will see this, feel insulted by kludginess and post something better. To get a “read more…” at the end of the excerpt that Origin posts on the front page, you can paste this at the bottom of the “Excerpt editor.” NOT at the bottom or anywhere inside of the post itself. Note that the links in Origin in red, which I found jarring immediately after the last period of my excerpt, so I chose to put “Read more…” on a separate line, right justified.
Hopefully this will get you started, because the support staff was less than helpful in the posts which I found. You have to edit the post and figure out what the permanent link to your post is.
<div align="right">Read more...</div>This is a pain in the butt, but I overall like the Origin theme, particularly on mobile devices. Particularly nice is the easy way to edit the excerpt. BUT. My stats were showing that people were hitting the front page of my blog, reading the excerpt, and thinking that was it. I’m not after fame and fortune, but it galled me that they were liking posts without actually reading the full post.

AGH this editor is not allowing me to post code correctly. Try #2
<div align=”right”>Read more…</div>

<div align="right"><a href="http://http://howisshe.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/grace-under-pressure/">Read more...</a></div>Sorry about the reposts, this editor is also not allowing me to view what it is going to post.

@taninewell
I’m sorry but I don’t comprehend how what you posted answers the question above.Every theme here is unique and every designer makes their own choices with respect to how themes function. The Origin theme is coded to provide only front page excerpts and automatically provides “read more links”.
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/origin/The question posed above was how to display full posts, not excerpts on the front page of the blog and it has been answered.
And is there any way to edit already published posts to appear full-length?

My apologies, I haven’t had breakfast yet and my blood sugar is nuts.
I was trying to add the “more…” functionality origin theme. The examples I found here didn’t work. There were several other people who posted, asking about how to do that. The answers were not clear (to me).
I like many aspects of the origin theme, in most ways it is perfect for me, because I am blogging from a smartphone.
The kludge allows me to add a “Read more..” hyperlinked function at the end of an excerpt. Since I found something that worked I wanted to let other people know.
My response should really have been made to one of these other posts, this is misplaced. Oops. Can my posts be deleted? I have saved the content and can shift what I am using over to one of the helpful locations, e.g. this one

the “read more ” and the […]
are both read more links.
The former is when we insert the more tag.
The latter is provided by the software when the theme is like Origin ie. coded to automatically display excerpts only on the front page.cabildo1 wants to display full posts on the front page hence the read more tag is not required.

Can my posts be deleted?
No I’m sorry they can’t be.

P.S. It’s not necessary for you to post into the other thread what you posted here because it’s not news to me, raincoaster, auxclass, or any of the other Volunteers answering questions here.

I understand.
What cabildo1 wants to do and what I am trying to do are two different things. I answered the wrong question — this code wouldn’t be helpful to cabildo1.
What I wanted to do was stay very brief, which is what the Origin theme is good at, giving readers the option to read the full post if they chose. It appears to me that cabildo1 may need is a different theme.
