Show more posts on category page than index page

How can I show more posts on category page than index page?
I would like for my “Blog” page to show only one post at a time, since it’s my front page and too much content is messy.
Under my “Categories” pages, however, I would like to show more blogs per page so that my readers can see all the content available to them.How can I do this please? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

:( sad.
is there anything i can do to upgrade my blog in order to gain this functionality?

No.
You would have to start a completely separate site on paid hosting elsewhere to make this happen.

What you’re looking for happens by default if you use The Morning After. It can also happen on some themes that display a posts slider.

Thank you, JustPi. I am definitely thinking about purchasing the Custom Design Upgrade in order to do this.
Where can I find the tutorial/information on how to do this after I purchase the design upgrade?
Thanks!

@rain: CSS allows you to target elements selectively. So you can say: hide all posts except the first one, on the homepage only.
@cbassey: If you want to preview this on Structure (and assuming you don’t want the large featured post area), go to Settings > Reading and set the number of posts per page you prefer, then go to Appearance > Customize > CSS, select all, delete, and paste this:
#homepagetop, .homepagemid .post, .home #nav-below { display: none; } .homepagemid .post:first-child { display: block; }
