Show only latest single post for multiple categories on Home Page

  I am wondering if there is a way to have multiple post boxes on my home page that show only the most recent post in a specific category. I will have multiple categories. This is in the main body of the page and not on the sidebar. I know how to make a post sticky, but what I want is the category sticky with the post that update automatically when I create a new post in that category.
  Example:
  (limit number of post on “Home Page” to 4)
  Sticky First Post, Category A: Show the most recent post in category A. One post only but updated automatically when I enter a new post in that category.
  Sticky Second Post, Category B: Show the most recent post in category B. One post only but updated automatically when I enter a new post in that category.
  Sticky Third Post, Category C: Show the most recent post in category C. One post only but updated automatically when I enter a new post in that category.
  Sticky Fourth Post, Category D: Show the most recent post in category D. One post only but updated automatically when I enter a new post in that category.

  Thanks, I am new to this and am not sure if I have explained my needs correctly. I would appreciate any help.
