Show Summary on Home Page

I’m trying to shorten the posts on the home page to 5 lines or so. From what I can tell you can only include summaries on feeds but not the homepage…is that right? This blog as long poems and articles but I want the reader to be able to see several posts within a few scrolls instead of scrolling through every one to get to the next. Hope I’m being clear. Thank you for your help in advance.
