show the content on Subdomain instead of main domain?

I own a old domain through hostgator today. Lets call this example.com
I have installed wordpress on this domain. Now I keep on updating the website via a subdomain, lets call this sub.example.com. A totally remake of the old homepage. I have also installed wordpress on the subdomain. How do I replace the content on example.com and show my new website instead (sub.example.com) without changing the original url (example.com).The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So both the sites on the domain and the subdomain are with Hostgator? In that case you need to contact Hostgator support for help on what is needed to set that up.
We can only help with sites hosted on WordPress.com and/or upgrades bought from WordPress.com in this forum. We cannot help with sites using the self-hosted WordPress software and hosted with other service providers.

Yes i have installed wordpress on my maindomain and subdomain. So I must therefore contact HostGator to migrate that content on my subdomain is displayed on my main domain? I thought i could do it myself through ftp. I have seen several movies about this topic.

You should be able to do it if you have FTP access as well.
For the details on how to do that you’ll need to check the WordPress.org documentation or ask in their forums. On WordPress.com we don’t have FTP access, so we’re not able to assist you with that here.
