  how do you show your about me on the main page without having to click on the link

  You can simply set it as your static front page from Settings -> Reading. Please see http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/having-a-static-page-at-the-front-of-the-blog/

  I just switched to the Black Letterhead theme, and now there’s no longer a link to my ABOUT page.

  Is that not possible with this theme?

  you need to use the pages widget with the black letterhead theme, if i’m not wrong. your about page would appear then.
