Showcasing or full page layout in Oxygen theme

    Hey all!

So I am currently working on a blog in the Oxygen theme and want to add another page (or maybe two) to it that simply shows sub-posts (or in this case, pages) laid out visibly when you click on the parent page. Is this even possible in this theme (I am a major fan of this in other themes, but I’ve not yet seen it working in Oxygen) and if so, how do I go about doing this?

Also, is the Showcase page format only for the blog or can I redirect other materials and pages to a second one/featured slider?

Finally, just in general, but with a free account, or even ever, is it at all possible to create a second blog-like series of posts? Been wondering about that for a while.

Kinda seems like I should invest in a paying WordPress account, but since I am currently a volunteer worker living abroad, I have little funds to spare towards this ;P

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

It sounds like you may be describing a page with a grid page template assigned. The Oxygen theme doesn’t have an optional grid page template for pages. A list of WordPress.com themes that do have that feature follows:

On certain themes, there is a feature called a Grid Page Template. A static page assigned to this template will display featured image links to all child pages of the page in a grid format. Themes with the Grid Page Template option include the following:

Also, is the Showcase page format only for the blog or can I redirect other materials and pages to a second one/featured slider?

See the Oxygen theme guide. As noted in the theme guide, the featured slider on Oxygen may only include sticky posts.

Regarding the question “or can I redirect other materials and pages to a second one…?”:
Do you mean to a second blog page? There is only one blog page per WordPress.com site. The Showcase Template on the Oxygen theme may be assigned to multiple pages, but it will display the same posts each time.

Finally, just in general, but with a free account, or even ever, is it at all possible to create a second blog-like series of posts? Been wondering about that for a while.

WordPress.com sites, free and paid, have just one blog page. However, you may arrange posts by categories on a WordPress.com site by including category pages in a custom menu. See the following relevant support pages:

Some forum topics with the “post in pages” tag are relevant. See for example: How to post in pages? or POST TO PAGES ISSUES.
