Showing 3 posts on homepage at all times?
-
I use Dusk by Becca Wei and I was wondering if I could show only say 3 posts on the homepage at all times, and that is it. Not just the 3 most recent, but three posts that i handpick to be there. Can I do this, if so, how? Thanks for reading
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When editing the posts you want to be there, change their visibility to “Public, Sticky”, or if doing a Quick Edit click the box that says “Make this post sticky”. That will make that particular post appear at the top of your blog at all times until you un-sticky it.

Posts are displayed in reverse chronological order in accord with publication time/date stamps. You can choose how many posts to display on your front page here > Settings > Reading. You could achieve what you want by making any three posts into “sticky” posts that remain on the front page regardless of time/date stamps. However, IMO this is likely to produce a negative result in terms of SEO.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/You could place a text widget in your sidebar with links to the posts of your choice and call it something like “Featured Posts”. By using an image and/or colored font(s), and by placing the text widget at the top of the sidebar you can make that text widget prominent.
This is all I can come up with. Perhaps other members have better ideas.

Having the same three posts on the front page all the time sounds like making your front page into a static page.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/I agree with timethief: Making 3 posts sticky posts is not really a good idea. Readers will think you have not updated since whatever dates are on your homepage.
Why do you want to have those 3 and only those 3 on your front page? Are they the same 3 all the time? Or will you change them?

@Tess
Thanks for suggesting using a static page for featured posts as another way to go. The downside is that static pages cannot be assigned categories and tags, don’t appear in the wordpress.com global tags pages, have very little Google juice, and cannot be “updated” automatically, but only via editing. I’m wracking my brain for a way to do this without negatively affecting both SEO and blog promotion efforts but coming up empty. :( -
Right. I can’t think of anything else either, but perhaps if we knew what the OP’s reason or goal is, maybe there is some other work-a-round. Reaching for straws I think, but…
