Showing filesizes in the media library
-
Dear WordPressers,
Due to reaching a limit of my basic plan I need to compress or delete large files but unfortunately there is no way to see file-sizes in the media library which makes this task impossible.
On top of that exporting ones entire wordpress-blog is impossible to download all media at once
(maybe to purposely bind one to the blog and make it difficult to migrate to ones own self- hosted site). Therefore I would suggest to
* show and be able to sort files by size,
* and / or to export an entire blog or at least all files at ones to be able to sort files out on ones own computer.Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There’s no way to sort your images by size, but you can view each image’s size by editing it:
https://wordpress.com/support/media/#edit-media-details
As for exporting your images, we have a dedicated tool for that. Go to Tools > Export > Export media library and click on the Download button.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you, but that answer is not helpful at all.
All you are telling me is that wordpress is unwilling to make any changes – whether being able to download all own media at once,
or whether wordpress implementing a simple file-size – something even I could program into the filesize lists within less than a day.Batch convert obviously is no option because wordpress forces one to download each media manually.
So you ask me to click on each of my nearly 400 medias, to see the filesize, then to download it to my computer, then to compress it manually, and then to reupload each one manually myself – a task which will take an ENTIRE WEEK fulltime work, only because wordpress is not willing to make one or two constructive changes for all users.
If nothing changes by the time my contract is up, I am not really inclined to renew it anymore.

Maybe we do not understand each other; the instructions @fstat shared with you are for downloading your whole media library to your computer. Isn’t it what you were looking for?

We’ve added your suggestion to our internal board of ideas.
Sorry, I don’t have better news. The solutions, right now, are to click on the edit button to see more info about each image. You can also upgrade your plan to gain more storage space.
Bear in mind that the core WordPress software is an open-source project so, if you’d like to collaborate, you can do that too:
