Showing only specific posts in homepage
-
Hello there.
So I want to add a page called “Some Recommended Books” and write posts on THAT page. I want the posts that I write about book recommendations to only be on that page but not visible on the home page. Any ideas about how I can achieve that? Or is it even possible? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi huzo11,
If you’d like to create separate pages for the homepage and book recommendations, I recommend trying the following:
- Go to My Sites > Customise > Homepage Settings
- Choose “Why Blog” as the homepage
- Choose “Some Book Recommendations” as the posts page
- Publish the change
Does that do what you are looking for?
-
This way he is going to have 1 static page + 1 blog. what if I wan to have 2 blogs in the same theme?
-
Then you can create categories (e.g. Blog1, Blog2, etc.) and assign those categories to posts. With that, you can create the illusion of having multiple blogs on one site.
-
But in that way, Why Blog would be in the home page. I just want the home page to stay this way. I want it to include the non-book recommendation posts. I want book recommendation posts to be on another page in the style that the home page hosts the other posts. I hope that was clear enough.
Thanks!

For instance, now I have a separate page for “Some Book Recommendations” but the writings that I post under the category “Books” also gets posted in the Home Page. I only want posts from other categories rather than “Books” to be visible in the home page.

The “posts” page will show all posts, regardless of category. We don’t currently have a way around this, though I will file a feature request for you.
Thinking out of the box a bit:
One way you could blog your book recommendations completely separate from the blog at https://prismatically.blog/ is to actually put them on a separate site, such as https://books.prismatically.blog/ , and then link to both from the menu bar.
Another way would be to file them as “testomonials” which will not show up as blog posts at all. You would use a short code to display them. They would not tile the same way your blog page does though.

Hello!
I think the separate site idea was reasonable. But I think I have to add more domains for that? And I can not do that because I am using the Blogger plan which does not offer extra domains.
And what do you mean by “filing a feature request”? Does that mean that someone will be implementing that feature for me in a short time? Can you elaborate a bit :)Thanks!

Hi huzo11,
And what do you mean by “filing a feature request”?
That means @supernovia will put the idea forward to our developers. While we can’t guarantee if and when the feature will be implemented, it can certainly be considered for possible future improvements made to WordPress.com :)
But I think I have to add more domains for that?
There wouldn’t be any need to register a second domain. You could actually map a subdomain of prismatically.blog. So based on @supernovia’s example, that could be
books.prismatically.blog:I hope this helps.

Hello!
Thank you for the extra information. But when I try following the instructions in the link, after I click “Add Domain” I always face this message saying:Domain limit reached
If you would like to add more domains please checkout our other plans.Like I had mentioned, I use the blogger plan. So does that mean I can not even create subdomains?
Thanks -
Hi huzo11,
The plan you are using does support the mapping of subdomains. Following the route suggested above, the subdomain would be mapped to a separate site (not prismatically.blog). So not being able to add more domains to that site would be less of an issue.
Adding more domains to prismatically.blog would require a plan upgrade though.

How do I show only the most recent post on the home page and have all earlier posts begin on the second page?

Hi LWH,
You have a paid upgrade which includes direct support so please contact us from https://wordpress.com/contact/. That way, we can take a closer look at your site and continue helping the original poster of this thread :)
