showing random posts on the main site

    Hello,

I am disappointed about the fact that it’s not possible to control which posts will be shown on the main site of my blog. I know that your software supports plugins for this and that you needn’t much coding to domit yourself, but since I am registered with .com I am not allowed to make use of it. However, this is such an important feature that I don’t understand why you do not offer solutions yet!
I am aware of the possibility to append ?random to my urls, but this doesn’t solve the problem, because it requires the users to invoke that link. I want them to see some randomly chosen posts at the top of my main site, whenever they visit my blog. Will you please include this into a new update of your system, and when?
Otherwise, I will have to move my blog before it’s getting to big.

By default, WordPress.com blogs display posts in reverse chronological order on the home page with the latest post at the top. There isn’t a way to display posts in chronological order, but you can mark some posts as Sticky to make them appear above the other posts. They will stay at the top of your posts until you uncheck that option on the Edit screen for that post.

You can mark a post as sticky by checking the option that says “Stick this post to the front page” in the Publish settings on any post.

    Hello!

I am sorry, but my question was about the possibilities to show randomly selected articles at the top. I am aware that there are suitbale plugins, but I cannot use them, because of plugin restrictions from wordpress.com.
Why don’t you guys make this feature available as an option?

I’m sorry, that’s not possible at WordPress.com. Please review this page to see if you can find a theme that meets your needs (e.g a theme with a post slider).

There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

I know that it’s not possible. My point is that it would be very easy to implemt this and offer this as an option in the settings menu. Will you consider this in the next upadate of your system? I think many users need this feature and would appreciate this function. Otherwise it is very difficult to promote older content on your blog.

  • Yes, we’ll definitely put it down as something to consider.
