Showing Theme

    Hey!

I’m new with WordPress and I have a quick question.
I want to start a blog and I downloaded some themes from a website. (they didn’t have any previews)
Is it possible to see those themes on my machine without getting a host & domain?

    Thanks in advance!
    Vlad

Note that we do not provide support for any local installs of WordPress on this forum, which is only for free hosted WordPress.com bloggers and we cannot upload any third party themes to our blogs here.

Yes it’s possible to run a local install of WordPress. All you need is a webserver and mySQL database running locally with a local wordpress installation. For MACs there is MAMP and those of you using Windows, there is WAMP Server or XAMPP.

Most of the themes we run here on WordPress.com are also available in the WordPress.org themes directory: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
We use modified versions of the themes though to better fit in with WordPress.com, so if you want the identical version to what we run, you’ll want to downloaded from here https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/
