Shutting down a site
-
I had mistakenly started a site on wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org and it is leading to a lot of confusion. How do I close down my wp .com site. My domain name is with the wp.org site. Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @baerdesignstudio –
Actually, if I were you, I’d take that confusion and use it to your benefit.
Make a main page for your wordpress.com site that redirects your visitors to your .org site through a link. (Ex: Hi! Welcome to Baer Design Studio! Please visit our main page at [insert link here] for all the newest designs!)
Then, link your .com site to your .org site and use the stats it provides to help with your .org. You get the use of Jetpack, Akismet, and other features by using both in tandem.
I use the .com features of Jetpack on all my .org sites, and I love it!
Here’s a link to give you a bit more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/jetpack-add-ons/
Of course, if you’re still wanting to delete, here’s the relevant information:

Thank you for your advice. I am going to use the .com site to re-direct to my .org site. How do I link the .org and the .com site?

After I installed jetpack, it modified the way my products pages appear on my cell phone. It changed the colors of buttons and added a bar in an awful blue. Can I change the colors so they coordinate with my original design theme? Any help would be much appreciated!

You can ignore that last post. I just updated my Woo Commerce and everthing looks fine and dandy. My jetpack is happy and so am I!

To the best of my knowledge, and as per the WPcom User Guidelines, WordPressdotcom sites are intended for publishing original content and not for redirecting your site visitors to another site. However, I’ve tagged this for Staff input as they have the final say on what is and what is not permitted use here.
Also please note that sites using the WordPress.org software are supported at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and at https://wordpress.org/support If you don’t have a username account there, you can register one on that page.
Standalone WP (org) and WordPressdotcom are different platforms, each with their own support documentation and forums; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi folks, the official policy is here. Individuals can report concerning sites at https://wordpress.com/abuse , and our Terms of Service team is fully in charge of interpreting whether an individual site breaks the policy. It wouldn’t be my place to further interpret the policy here.
That said, I am happy to make recommendations:
– Since the site doesn’t have a lot of SEO relevance or organic traffic, a link to it probably isn’t going to help the new site much. If I were a search engine, I might even penalize folks for having content-less sites linking to my site.
– Personally I would just make the site private here: https://wordpress.com/settings . That way if I ever decide I want to use it after all, I can, and no users are going to be confused because they won’t be able to see it.
– If you’re worried whether folks may be visiting the wordpress.com address, consider using a site redirect instead: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/site-redirect/
I hope that helps!
