Shutting down a unused blog (that I don't own)
-
Hello
I work for BT looking after our recruitment social media channels and I’ve been asked to get btgrads.wordpress.com shut down – the person who created it is no longer working for us and hasn’t for two years so she has no idea of the logins, but is happy for us to shut this down. Any idea how I go about doing this when we can’t get logged in to the account the manages it and I’m not the owner?
Thanks, Becky
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi beckyjaynewilliams,

Hi Becky –
The site owner (which is the account that originally created it) will be the only account able to remove btgrads.wordpress.com.
If they are unable to login they can submit our Account Recovery form.
Once the site is deleted it will be gone forever and unable to be used again. An alternative action would be to edit the site’s privacy settings if you think there’s a chance your organization would want to use that address again in the future for another project. More information is available in this guide.
The site owner could also transfer ownership of it to you by following these steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/ And then you’d be able to decide what to do with it next.Let me know if you need anything else. Best wishes!

Hi @liskarkoski
Completely understand this, but the blog owner left the company two years ago, doesn’t know the login details and they’ve not been passed on to anyone who still works here. Also, none of us have access to her old emails so won’t be able to find any proof of ownership to be able to get any kind of account recovery.
Is there any way this could be escalated or advice on what else we could do to get this blog closed down would be great.
Thanks

Hi Becky –
The only way to remove this site is through the blog owners account. These actions are permanent and can only be initiated from that account.
If it will help I can send a note to the email address that is associated with btgrads.wordpress.com. The owner of the site will then be able to reset the password with this form and login.
Once logged in they can delete or transfer the site. This is entirely at their discretion and they are not required to make any changes to it.
