SICK OF OVER COMPLEX BLOG SOFTWARE!!! >:(

  • Unknown's avatar

WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT KEEP ME FROM WRITING ON MY BLOG ON wORDpRESS?

the software is too complicated, just to change the color of the second line that says “the theme of my current post”. Every time I go to change it, it wants to go purple, on the background, and I have to give the whole thing up and dump the whole post and start over.I have done this several times and cannot figure out how to just change that line, to the color I want instead of black. So, I have decided to forget it completely and not change it to a color.

number two: when I get into my blog, in my dashboard, I suddenly discover – SURPRISE! All of the dashboard controls menu has completely changed! Isn’t that fun. No, it is not. It is much harder to figure out the controls now, on the left side than it used to be. Thumbs down on this one.

Number three: all these people keep posting on my blog, trying to advertise their own blogs, and do not really comment on mine at all. The only thing I can think of right now, which I don’t want to do, is to block all comments. I’m so sick and tired of this, I’m considering it. I actually do want, comments, but I mean REAL COMMENTS! Not fake one’s! I also do not like all the stupid advertising WordPress comments, because they just have to keep getting dumped anyway.

Number four: I decided after a number of months, not to go on the pages telling everyone how to do exactly everything on the software, how to figure it out, how to fix it, how to make it fancy and customize it: just like everybody stopped using their VCRs, because they couldn’t figure out how to program them to record, I have stopped using all of these instructions, because they are the new VCR instructions. – – And now we’re going to go to

Number five: all of this BS is taking a huge amount of time, trying to get the software correct, trying to deal with new dashboards that aren’t efficient, trying to figure all this out, just so that I can post one little episode on my blog? Do the writers in newspapers and magazines have to go through this? Figuring out how to be expert technical people instead of actually WRITING?

You know, that thing that we were supposed to do when we got on here –WRITE,
INSTEAD OF WORK FOR APPLE, GOOGLE, IBM, MIOCROSOFT,OR WHATEVER huge gigantic JUNK ADDLED, MASS OF SOFTWARE CONFUSION that is keeping us from writing!???? Instead of WRITING, we spend all our time, at least I do, trying to figure out all the technical aspects and problems of the blog itself. THE SOFTWARE! Right now, is completely getting in the way of me writing a single word or going back and doing editing.

Isn’t the whole point of WordPress, to WRITE AND NOT BECOME BLOG-SOFTWARE-JOCKIES?? right now,the cheapest paper, newspaper, newsletter, comic book, and magazine format with my writing, is starting to look really really good again.

Why? Because the technical people handled all the technical work and didn’t pile it up on us.when you write for a magazine or newspaper, you don’t have to go down to the newspaper basement, get on the cold presses, do all the computer paste-up work, and formatting for your article, just to get it written and published.no, they don’t make the writers do that! If they did, none of those newspapers and magazines would ever get published.

I can’t imagine the editor of the local newspaper, going down to the basement in the newspaper, doing all the cold press computer work, just to get his editorials published in the paper.he would stop writing. (Incidentally, a lot of mental health workers in this district, have quit their jobs, because they have been told they have to do a lot of their client work on computer stuff.) Wonderful isn’t it?that puts many of us baby boomers right on the unemployment line.

Yes, a lot of us baby boomers are going through so much software and hardware shock, just trying to write, it’s gotten us yelling blue words , and then, a lot of us do what I’m just going to do – now – go lie down and relax because I can’t remember now, what I was actually going to write my blog episode on.

“the medium is not the message”.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@whattodo – regarding the spam comments – it looks like you have approved some spam comments – that is sort of the old adage – once you let one in the neighborhood goes to down hill – they attract each other –

I get maybe one good comment every 3,000 to 4,000++ page views – I think some sites are more interactive but not many – I admin a friends travel blog for them and they get more comments, but their blog is mostly read by their friends, so it is sort like a family thing

Your username is linked to a non-existent blog
    whattodowhiletheplanetdies.wordpress.com doesn’t exist

Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes. Then every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

Excuse me but I’m a baby boomer too and statistically speaking the Pew Institute studies demonstrate that the majority of our demographic group do know what we are doing and are able to adapt to change with ease and grace.

I am sorry you are in a minority sub-set but I don’t play the age card and it peeves me right off when anyone else does because it’s so misleading. In fact humans do not become less intelligent and less able to learn new things as they age. The baby boomer generation – my generation – has seen, caused and adapted to more changes than previous generations.

WordPress.com is on continuous roll-out and that is not going to change. Up to 2 dozen code changes can be made in a single day to keep pace with the realities of cyberspace. Nothing is frozen in time anywhere in this universe where change is the only constant. Operating system software, browsers, etc. are continually updated as well.

I urge you to please change your mental set and not look upon change as either an inconvenient or a threat, but rather choose to look upon it as a challenging opportunity to increase your intellectual acumen.

Seniors who learn new mentally challenging things do so right up until they die with their full mental capacity intact. They don’t cling to old ways and act like the living dead. Those who do are wrongheaded about chnage are sadly inclined to travel down the road towards dementia. Please don’t go there. If I can do this you can do it too.

Changing font colors in text in posts or pages is done by using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

Note the sticky post at the head of the forum:

There will always be people who don’t like change. We love our users and we do listen to your feedback, but we can’t make every change suggested by everyone. Decisions are made with that feedback in mind though, so if you have constructive feedback with specifics or bug reports, you should send them to:
    http://en.wordpress.com/admin-feedback/

P.S. I’m visually challenged an my thumbs are up for the dashboard changes. I can now see the turquoise and orange colored links with ease, the contrast and readability is much improved and the clutter has been reduced.

That comes with the territory there are opportunistic wagon followers wherever one goes online or offline. Akismet is a learning engine. Mark only spam as spam. Delete troll comments and comments that lack substance. Increase the number of blogs of the quality and kind you prefer that you comment on.

Number four: … I have stopped using all of these instructions …

That’s too bad because our blogging world is text based to a large degree one can only help those who are willing to read instructions.

As I said above WordPress.com is on continuous roll-out and that is not going to change. Up to 2 dozen code changes can be made in a single day to keep pace with the realities of cyberspace. Nothing is frozen in time anywhere in this universe where change is the only constant. Operating system software, browsers, etc. are continually updated as well. I say with kindness if you can’t or won’t cope then you may have to allow yourself to find another hobby that evokes comfort.

    @whattodowhiletheplanetdies
I visited your blog and I see something you need to correct if you wish to encourage traffic from the WordPress.com Topics pages.

This is the block of Categories and Tags you assigned to your most recent post:

Filed under Uncategorized, WHATTODOWHILETHEPLANETDIES and tagged army, community, corruption, Daily Life, Eugene Oregon, federal government, firearms, food shortage, Friends, gardening, government, health, humor, Local, mental-health, military, money, national guard, NRA, Oregon, Philosophy, politics, poverty, satire, seniors, small town, taxes, technology, terrorist threat, the good old days, true story

All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts

As you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.

You are inadvertently spamming AKA tag spamming. You ought to be more concerned about Google and Bing than the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for tag spamming.

The rule of thumb is to assign the least combined number of relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the post content.

For tips on tagging see > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/03/15/quick-blog-post-tagging-tips/
