side bar editor? what, how, where?
-
Hi,
I’m new to WP and to blogging which is probably why I’m having such a hard time. I have a PC and I use Internet Explorer.
I want to put up a widget on my WP (nidddles.wordpress.com) from shelfari.com. The code is
<embed width=”150″ height=”800″ src=”http://www.shelfari.com/ws/shelfV.swf” wmode=”transparent” FlashVars=”UserName=o1518089312&ShelfType=list&verE=s1.5&ListType=reading&booksize=large&Alpha=0&BGColor=FFFFFF”></embed>
But I don’t know how to get to the sidebar editor in WP. And, I don’t know how to get a theme that supports sidebars…..
Kinda clueless, please help!
(thanks!)

Nope – you can’t embed flash.
There is no sidebar editor. What you have available to you in your sidebar are widgets. (Design>widgets) In a normal situation, you would post that code into a text widget.
I believe nearly all of the themes here support sidebars. Look through them (Design>themes)

Not all of them support widgets, especially the older ones. You will have to play around and see. And Shelfari won’t work here.

Hi, I’m new here also. I too have been trying to get Shelfari on my blog. I don’t understand why it can’t go on here (WP), if the Shelfari site says it can. And I don’t understand how this person did it :http://arvind1187.wordpress.com/

That is simply a jpg image linked to his shelfari page: http://www.shelfari.com/o1517582728/shelf , it is not the shelfari widget.
When they refer to compatibility with wordpress, they are referring to the self-hosted version, not wordpress.com.
