side bar image

  • Unknown's avatar

    I wanted to add a side bar image to my blog ust as away to personalize my blog. Attaching a face to the blogger. I used a image widget which seems ok. What I’m looking for is the code to use a text widget to center and pad the image. If this is the wrong forum I apologize. Please move to the appropriate forum. And just for the sake of getting an opinion is it bad practice to add an image of the blogger?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    How about using the Gravatar Widget? If you have multiple email address, you can use another image by assigning Gravatar to the address & entering it as Custom Email Address in the widget.

    Hi there,
    The easiest way to do this if you aren’t into coding is to simply create a draft post and upload the image into it and align it as required. Then save the draft post. Next switch to the HTML editor in the draft post and copy the code. Now paste the copied code into the text widget and save it. Once the text widget is displaying in the sidebar on the blog, you can go back and delete the draft post you created.
    Happy blogging!

    Thank you so much. I will try both methods to see which one works best for me …

    Happy Blogging!

    @joer223: ? In the blog linked to your username you already have two text widgets (sitemeter and blogengage) with properly centered images.

    @TiTi

    You’re method was painless …Thanks.

    @Panos

    Yes I knew how to align center ….thanks to you of course :)
    I was wondering about padding the image. It worked out without
    having to pad. What I’m wondering now is where the title of the image
    it is under lined I like that. How can I add the same line to the bottom of the
    image. I vaguely remember the code, you had given it to me a while back.
    I will look through my widgets, but I think it was when you helped me with the
    previous header image. I will hop over to your blog, and search around.
    If I’m unable to find a solution can you provide the code? Thanks Panos.

    Man my gravatar is messed up …I changed it, still waiting for the change to
    take effect.

    Hey There! Joer223,

    I changed it, still waiting for the change to
    take effect.

    The change can take anywhere from 1 to 24hrs for the changes to take affect while the Gravatar propagates through the servers…

    If you don’t see the new Gravatar after 24hrs are up I recommend clearing your browser cache… Support Doc → Browser Issues

    and if the new Gravatar still doesn’t show up after that then I recommend reloading the image over at http://gravatar.com because it seems to upload the image faster plus the Gravatar up-loader in your profile settings is kinda glitchie and works
    sometimes…

    as for the under line code sorry I don’t have a answer…

    @SK

    Thanks slik …I cleared FF 3.6.8 cache. Reloaded Gravatar, will do it again though.
    Don’t worry about the underline ….I’m close to getting it worked out. I vaguely remember
    the code Panos gave me before it is something like H1> <H1 can’t quite remember exactly. I looked through my forum entries/replies but can not find the reply Panos left with that code. Thanks SK ….

    I remember what that code was <h1> <h1> that adds the padding. Dang! I need to find a way to add a line to the bottom of that image. I went to Pano’s blog, but no luck.
    Maybe there’s not a way to do that. Perhaps that line is specific to the title only. Looking at my widgets that’s what I see. Man ….Bummer …

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dang! I think I know what the issue is with the Gravatar …I think it is being assigned an X rating …Geez it’s just a pic of my ugly mug …

    re: BlogEngage
    Blog Engage allows you to submit your own written Blog articles that have already been published on your blog. After submitting them they will be reviewed by all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page of the blogengae blog. When a user submits a Blog article it will be placed in the “unpublished” area until it gains sufficient votes to be promoted to the main page. Maybe you ought to look at this as it could be an issue or not > duplicate content http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359

    @TiTI

    I see where you’re going with this. Better to be in good standing with Google I think.
    Dang! I’m outta there ….BlogEngage that is ….
    Thanks for the info.

    Be very polite when you leave as I may be wrong but that’s how I read it. Also note that there are many bloggers in the make money niche who have paid links and “do-follow” blogs that reward each commenter with a juicy backlink. They don’t care about Google PageRank.

    I’ll make a quiet exit. You know sometimes I go willy nilly throughout the blogosphere to my own detriment. I’m still learning. Thanks for the heads up.

    Now …go on vacation :) Got it? Good ….hehe

    @joer223: If I understand correctly, you want a horizontal line below the image, similar to the line above it. If so, add this after the image code:
    <div style="height:1px;background:#fff;margin-top:-10px;margin-bottom:10px;"></div>

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey Panos …

    I’ll give that try, I looked around you site today, but couldn’t find the code. I’ll save any code you provide going forward ….thanks again….
