    Hi,

how do I create a sidebar

According to the Widgets section of the Big Brother theme guide:

Big Brother supports one column of widgets alongside your content. Add some widgets by going to Customize → Widgets.

The sidebar widget area is already present on your site, to the right of the content of each post, static page, and archives page. See the Widgets support page to learn how to add and configure widgets.

and also a sign in sign out box

What is a “sign in sign out box?” The WordPress.com login page is https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php. You may easily add a link to that page in a text widget, or elsewhere on the site. Relevant support pages:

when i said sign in / sign out, i meant log in / log out box.

should i copy the html (https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php. )? if so should this be placed within a box, or the html page

The login page is not a “log in / log out box.” It’s only for logging in. I don’t know if a “log in / log out box” is available for WordPress.com sites. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

I’ve provided a link to one of the login pages. If you are trying to find a place where you can logout of your account, then see the forum topic how do I log out of my account? why is it so hard to find the log out button? Any WordPress.com member who is logged in while visiting your site, including yourself, should have the access to the the sign out options described by kokkieh in that topic, at either the wp-admin (gray admin bar), or My Sites (blue admin bar) interfaces.

I was unable to find the Meta widget on my primary site, which has a retired theme activated (which might explain its absence), but I did find it on another WP.com site of mine. The Meta widget contains a “Log out” link which will not only log out a member, but also redirect to the login page.

If you don’t find the Meta widget among the available widgets on your site, you may copy the link from the site you referred to above, and paste it into a text widget, then customize it by changing the website address (not necessary). The code for the Log out link will look like this:
    <a href="https://grimethorpehall.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=logout&_wpnonce=fbe8307d8e">Log out</a>
