side-by-side pictures in widget bar

Can anyone tell me in words of one syllable how to put my two book covers side by side in the same widget, please? One is there already but the new book is about to be published and I’d like them small and side by side. My html simply isn’t up to it!
    Thanks for any help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The two images together have to be less than 230px wide. I would suggest making the images no more than 110px wide each.

It is then just a matter of putting the image codes into the widget one right after the other with a single space in between such as this:

    <img alt="" src="Image URL here" /> <img alt="" src="Image URL here" />

Thank you – I’ll try that tomorrow when I am not so tired (UK time here!). Do I make them that narrow in Photoshop or will it happen in my dashboard?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s simplest if you use Photoshop and then upload them.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, in Photoshop. The current book is 110px wide, so you won’t have to redo that one.

I did that and put what you said (I think!) in the same widget so it reads:

    `<img alt=”scordril” src=”http://lothiandragons.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/scordril-cover.jpg” /> <img alt=”farlkris” scr=”http://lothiandragons.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/farlkriscover-for-blog.jpg” />’

but it keeps rubbing out host of it when I press save. And the blog sidebar seems to only show a tiny empty square near the original pic.

The file size of the 110 width farlkris cover is around 600Kb, if that’s relevant.

    Any suggestions pelase?

That should of course read “most of it” and “please”!

  • Unknown's avatar

There’s a type in the code for the 2nd pic. Replace ‘scr=”http’ with ‘src=”http’

  • Unknown's avatar

600kb?!? That’s a HUGE file for jpg, reduze its size using pic editor software i.e Photosop to below 50kb then you’ll have no prob I’ll assume.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah! Sorry for being code ignorant, Husdal — it’s hard to notice from my mobile’s screen.

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s OK, baba. I didn’t see the 600KB in the first place. While that should not be an issue (besides slow loading), it IS way too big.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well never mind the size for a minute! This is what happened (thanks for pointing out typo). The last slash> was changed as follows:

    <img alt="scordril" src="http://lothiandragons.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/scordril-cover.jpg" /> <img alt="farlkris" /> src="http://lothiandragons.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/farlkriscover-for-blog.jpg" />

and it simply writes the farlkris statement on screen (it may still be there?) with an empty box again.

    Am I missing something?!

There’s not supposed to be a “/>” between “farlkris” and “src”

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you! ;-))
Perfect. I’m really sorry I couldn’t follow instructions properly. Pathetic of me. But now I know for next time. Thanks everyone.

Oh bother – I’m on a MacBook Pro with Safari, where it’s working fine.

Husband has just looked on his PC, using IE, then AOL, then Firefox – and the farlkris pic doesn’t appear on the first two and neither of them appears on FF, just the two Alt tags…

How on earth can this happen? Are any of you on a PC to tell me if you see the two small images side by side? Please? If not, can you suggest why?

  • Unknown's avatar

I can see the pics just fine. However, the size of the 2nd pic could be an issue. Scordril is only 6kB, while Farlkris is 600kB.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay I’ve changed it to 92Kb – husband reports AOL now works, and so does IE, but FF doesn’t produce either of them, only alt tags. Anyone using FF got a suggestion please?

And thanks – I do appreciate the time people spend helping. I used to ask a lot of questions under my three different blog names, but usually manage fine these days!
