Sidebar

    My sidebar looks messy and I know absolutely nothing about codes. So I am not even sure what to ask. How do I clean all of that up so it doesn’t look like I just threw it all up there?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    You’ve got a lot of junk there. Look at the < a > tag below the eagle. Your selection of widgets has specific fonts and sizes coded in. I suggest you strip those out or make them all uniform: this means editing things widget by widget, tag by tag.

    That’s exactly what I would like to do lol. I just have no idea how. I don’t know anything about codes but I can definitely figure it out if I knew what I was looking for. Do you have a suggestion like a help page or something? I would google it if I knew what I was looking for….

    Your text widgets have some syntax errors in the code which although ignored by some browsers will not be ignored by others and things might look strange, or perhaps the stuff might not even show (internet explorer is particularly picky).

    In your “free our health care” text widget you have this:

    <a href="http://www.freeourhealthcarenow.com">
    <img width="125" height="125" border="0" alt="Free Our Healthcare" src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/KAL32205/FreeOurHealthCareNowButton.jpg"/>
    </a
    </a>

    Delete it and put this:

    <a href="http://www.freeourhealthcarenow.com">
    <img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/KAL32205/FreeOurHealthCareNowButton.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Our Healthcare" width="125" height="125" />
    </a>

    In the text widget with the follow me and blog catalog image in it, delete everything in that widget and paste the following:
    <a href="http://twitter.com/Kal32205"><img src="http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu315/copypasteman/twitter2.png" alt="My Twitter profile" /></a><a style="padding-left: 20px;" title="Personal Blogs - Blog Catalog Blog Directory" href="http://www.blogcatalog.com/directory/personal"><img style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://assets.blogcatalog.com/buttons/blogcatalog4.gif" alt="Personal Blogs - Blog Catalog Blog Directory" /></a>

    The above will put 20px of space between the images.

    In your gravatar widget, I would suggest editing it and selecting “left” alignment and that will wrap the text around your gravatar image. I think that will look better than having the text below the image.

    One suggested change to your settings: Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”

    The above change will keep HTML syntax errors from creeping into your posts and pages.

    Thank you! Wow, even that small change makes it look way better! Thank you SO much for taking the time to check it out for me and write all of that out;-P

    You’re welcome. I was glad to help.

    The other thing those changes did was to reduce the number of HTML errors on your main page from 34 to 19.

    After making the change I suggested at settings > writing, go through the following procedure with the posts on your main page and it should correct more of them.

    Starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “update post.” Continue on with the rest of your posts.

    Done! Thanks so much!
