sidebar and subscription
-
I am completely new and finding my way with WordPress (which is wonderful). However, I am unable to create a sidebar, and would like to add the option of visitors ability to subscribe. Any suggestions? Thank you, Gary
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the link to the blog please? The site linked to your username is not a wordpress.COM blog.

You cannot create sidebars, but you can change themes under Appearance -> Themes
Feeds:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/16/feeds-save-time-and-read-more/RSS widget:
http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/
You can put your own feed in there, or follow these instructions:

Thanks for the compliment Gary. That is a self-hosted blog using the wordpress software, and the theme started out as mostly grey tones and white. It was just a little tweaking to the CSS file to change the colors. Here at wordpress.COM, you would need to buy the CSS upgrade and of course have some experience with CSS to do something similar. You can go to the support pages and search for CSS to find more information on the upgrade and what is and is not possible with the upgrade.
Most likely right now what you are seeing in your sidebar is the default sample display of widgets. They show up when you have actually not added any widgets to your sidebar. Once you add a widget to the sidebar, the sample display will go away. Widgets are added by going to appearance > widgets and dragging widgets from the left pane of available widgets into the sidebar pane on the right. Wait for the little grey outlined box to appear before releasing the mouse button. You can rearrange the widgets by simply dragging them up or down the sidebar pane as necessary (again waiting for the grey outline to appear before releasing the mouse button.
You can use a text widget in your sidebar to add email subscriptions through feedburner. Feedburner/Google has changed things a little, so the following FAQ is not completely accurate, but once into the process it should be apparent to you.
