sidebar configuration

I’m trying to create a second sidebar orientated to the right side of my “smoked” theme to move some widgets. As much as I’ve read in WordPress threads and other information found on other sites, I still receive errors in syntax. I’ve created a second sidebar.php file, tried adding plurals and 2 counts to register notations in the functions file, and also added code to the index file. Still I receive errors. Can anyone tell me definitively how to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

You are referring to a WordPress.ORG install and posting to the wrong support forum. We cannot help you here at WordPress.COM with any blog not being free hosted by WordPress.COM. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Actually, I was working on the configuration/appearance before going live (on WordPress.com or elsewhere) with XAMPP on my PC. It’s not hosted anywhere yet. Appreciate the help from the WordPress community on a WordPress issue.

A little digging will find that theme at WP.com

We do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software here at WordPress>COM. We provide support here only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and no others. You are posting to the wrong support forums. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.org click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.org bloggers.
