Sidebar Customization Question

I just recently stumbled upon a WordPress blog with a really cool sidebar customized detail. I looked through all my own widgets to see if I could find something that would produce a similar effect but I couldn’t find such a thing so here I am to ask all of you!
The blog is here: http://whoiselyoo.wordpress.com/ and the sidebar detail I am referring to is the sort of grey high-lit links on the top right sidebar. Any clue how to do this or is it a custom HTML code… thus meaning I have to pay for custom HTML access to put it on my own blog?

Those are actually GIF images that they created, inserted and hyperlinked to the individual sites.

They put them in a text widget.

Oh I see now! Haha… kind of hard to notice at first. I would have just assumed it was text, not an actual image.
