Sidebar disappeared
-
Please can you help me? I was trying to use the new block editor to update information in my right hand sidebar – I was unable to do this – and the sidebar has disappeared completely from my site. Is there a way to restore it?
And can you please explain how I can simply add to the right hand sidebar to update information about my new posts. I am so upset about this. I loved using the classic editor system but can’t afford to update to premium and restore it. Any help would be gratefully received.
P.S. I have sent several emails to wordpress support but all that happens is my emails are sent back to me! Very frustrating.,

Hi there, regarding WordPress support, I’m guessing you have an incorrect email address. But this will help explain what support is available with your plan, and how to get it:
https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/Regarding missing widgets, these haven’t been managed through the classic editor, but we may indeed be running into an issue with the new widgets page. I’ll work on this and let you know what information we find.

OK. After quite a bit of looking around, I’ve been able to confirm and duplicate a bug: your widgets were rendered inactive. Sorry about that! It seems specific to certain retired themes. The bug is reported now.
If you’re interested in an interim workaround, you should be able to add widgets back in via Customize > Widgets.

Thank you. But when I got to Customize Widgets I can see the inactive widgets I want to reinstate on the Sidebar (which you say a bug caused to disappear) but it then says to drag and drop. I cannot do this as I am not on a post from my website but on the My Sites page. If I go into my website and hit Customize Widgets RIghthand Sidebar then the inactive widgets which I want do NOT appear here (just your list of new ones I do not want). So how on earth do I get back my old widgets onto the SIdebar?
I am sorry I am not trained in technology. With a lot of effort I managed to build the site I wanted in the Classic Editor but now with Block am finding it impossible to restore my site to how it was or to update it. I think it’s outrageous that the only way to do this is pay hundreds of dollars for Business.

I have just found this video on youtube: https://www.google.com/search?q=+inactive+widgets+in+wordpress&rlz=1C1CHBF_enGB881GB881&sxsrf=AOaemvKKpyoG2HohIGsg8hIHbpM1NVZIDg%3A1634741204558&ei=1CtwYc6NIeX97_UPkp6l6AQ&ved=0ahUKEwjOx6_GndnzAhXl_rsIHRJPCU0Q4dUDCA4&oq=+inactive+widgets+in+wordpress&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAwyBggAEAcQHkoECEEYAFC4TVi4TWDHamgAcAJ4AIABR4gBR5IBATGYAQCgAQHAAQE&sclient=gws-wiz#kpvalbx=_5CtwYeLKBef_7_UP-ceJ0Ao70
which shows how to do what I want to do (albeit in reverse) but my page does not look like this. The right hand side of the page which has the sidebars etc, to which I could drag and drop to restore my old widgets, does not appear. Do you know how to solve this problem?Thank you for your help

The link you sent included several videos, but I do want to emphasize that in this case you will need to avoid visiting widgets.php until the issue is resolved. So even if a video gives you a tip to go there to access inactive widgets, please don’t — that’s where the bug is, and that bug probably appeared well after that tutorial video was created.
