Sidebar disappears in IE

    Hey guys,

I’ve been trying to customize the sandbox theme for a new Church website and I’m having some problems with the left column disappearing in IE–it displays correctly in Fire Fox. I’ve had the problem of sidebars dropping before, but never completely disappearing. I’ve checked widths, images etc… and I can’t figure out what might be causing this. My URL is: http://stfrancis.wordpress.com, any help would be greatly appreciated.

IE is always a problem with these things. It is normally an image that is too big, rather than the CSS. In your case, I would suspect the image “leftnav1.jpg” is too wide (225px), confusing IE. FF deals with this by re-rendering the image to fit the div. IE tries to re-do the impossible with things like this.
In short – my suggestion would be to re-size that image down to a couple of px less than the div width.

Thanks Ozrisk, but the sidebar doesn’t show in IE (7) when I resize and even remove the bg image. It must be something else…

By deleting the absolute positioning tag, I’ve made it so far as to have the sidebar actually show up in IE, but where it displayed perfect in Firefox and Safari before and not at all in IE, it now displays with a large gap at the top in all three. Any thoughts?

OK, evidently IE has a deal where it disappears an absolutely positioned element that comes after a float. That seems to be the source of the problem, now I just need to find a solution.
