sidebar dropped to bottom!

  • Unknown's avatar

    My right sidebar dropped to the bottom and its not an image problem. And now the sidebar has this text:
    Blog at WordPress.com. Theme: Digg 3 Column by WP Designer

    I recently posted something but the images aren’t too large. Can someone advise?

    Your images on the main page are too wide for the post area. You need to make them narrower, down somewhere around 440px. Also, you have one that is within a blockquote, so that one will have to be narrower still.

    …Just want to add, it’s only on my home or main page, any other page shows both sidebars intact. I’ve checked the posts on my home page for issues and dont see any…

  • Unknown's avatar

    thescredpath, I’ll do that but when I click on that post, then the sidebars show up just fine. I reduce them and see what happens…

  • Unknown's avatar

    That’s because the single-post page is created from different underlying files.

    Set your blog to display only one post per page, and then go through them one at a time using the previous link at the bottom to see which ones are causing the issues.

    Actually I just noticed something. You have a “more” tag within a blockquote in the first post which is most likely causing the problem. Never put a more tag inside a blockquote. Basically it ends up indenting all posts after that on that page.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Move the more tag either before the blockquote, or after it and it should take care of it for you.

    I removed the block quote completely and it hasn’t corrected itself. I wonder if the block quote can actually be removed from the more tag once it’s been saved that way?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Alright. I got it! First I deleted the more tag, saved the change and the sidebars were once again normal. I then went back in and placed the more tag where I wanted it–without any blockquote at all, saved it, and my sidebar had once again been pushed down. So I finally removed the more tag altogether and it’s fine now. For some reason I can’t use the more tag on this post although it’s worked fine for me in the past. There must be coding in there somewhere’s that’s causing that but I’m done with it! Thanks thesacredpath :)

    I’ve got the same problem. I don’t think in my case that I’ve put in text or photos that are too wide, just the same as I usually do, in posts. I also tried your suggestion of taking out a few of the tags I had listed in the post that started this problem, nada….still doesn’t work. My sidebar dropped after posting the second last post on my blog: New Muffin Recipe…. Just thought of one more idea, could it be that the title is too long? Ill give this an edit, Im not hopeful though. Please help if you can

    @ophilia1
    If there is an image in the blockquote, it will always have to be narrower due to the indent in the blockquote which pushes the image to the right and interferes with the sidebar.

    @veggie
    In the new muffin post, open it for edit and right before the more tag at the bottom, put an ending div tag like this</div><--!more-->

    Hi,
    I find myself in the same pickle. All looks well in Firefox and IE7, but the sidebar drops to the bottom in IE6. I’ve pored through my recent posts (this first became apparent during the past 5-7 days at most), verified image sizes under 460 px (most at 400); chopped up some text; moved one image out of blockquotes as suggested above; but still encountering the same syndrome. I would be most appreciative if anyone can offer more clues. Many thanks! http://mudge.essoenn.com

    I’m wondering if you’re writing in Word and pasting in. If you are, please don’t, because it causes all kinds of problems and since the upgrade the blogs have become much more sensitive to it.

    Your latest post, http://mudge.essoenn.com/2008/04/13/mm346-all-together-now-ewwwwwwww/ seems to be one with a lot of different formatting. Try useing the “Clean Up Code” icon in the Advanced Toolbar. If that doesn’t fix it, do as tsp says here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=26399&replies=13#post-190218 and set it to one post per page. Look through it with IE until you find the cause.

    Thanks, Raincoaster, I’ll get going on this. WordPress and its members are the best!

    You’re welcome and good luck.

    Hi, Viewing 1 post per page, per Raincoaster’s recommendation, the problem exists on every page, going back weeks, even though there were no issues until early last week. Now wondering if the problem might be 1) a change made by WP during the upgrade; or 2) an issue in the sidebar itself, perhaps impacted by the upgrade. BTW, I never use Word, rather WindowsLiveWriter for composition. Thanks for any further advice.

    I wonder, then, if it’s something in the sidebar itself. Your Feedburner widget, for instance, is too wide for the sidebar. And your POPURI widget is jammed up against the edges. Try taking those two out temporarily and see if that fixes things.

    On Firefox 2.0.0.13 everything is fine. But that first picture is just about reached it’s limit at 467 pixels wide. I always resize to 400 pixels wide just to be safe. Or use thumbnails so it would be better for your visitors with dial-up.

    Hi, Helpful HTML wizards!
    Pulled Feedburner, Popuri, FuelMyBlog, and Zimbio “offending” widgets, but this did not change the ill effects on IE6, so I replaced them. It appears that all sidebar elements are left-justified in IE6, rather than right-justified in Firefox, IE7-8, Safari, etc. When I look at the “leave a comment” area in IE6, the left-justified property of the sidebar is quite obvious. Is there something in a post I created that could have altered the sidebar justification? Thanks, again, for the freely given assistance.
