Sidebar Font-Customizing

  • Unknown's avatar

    I created a new photoblog here at Word Press.com five days ago. I bought the CSS edit upgrade. I’m using the theme WordPress Classic as a basic template so large pictures can be posted. I’m having a problem with the sidebar font.

    I’ve tried to figure out what is what for the sidebar font in the template. I dabbled with what is there but I can’t seem to find where to customize the font.

    I’d like the sidebar font to be consistent except for Tags. The Recent Comments is large compared to the other font. How can I make the font smaller?

    Also, for the Pages, Categories, Recent Posts, and Links, how can I make the font larger by, say, 1px?

    Let me add that I know the font size code… What I have tried hasn’t worked.

    It is where do I put changed fonts on the template for WordPress Classic? As to my questions above.

    Just so you know, there aren’t many CSS-competent volunteers on the forums so you may have to wait a while for someone who can help you. Sorry.

    Thank you, rosclarke, for your reply.

    On the template, it states: “The grandfather of two-column fluid width themes just asking for custom CSS. Author: Dave Shea. This is just a basic layout, with only the bare minimum defined.Please tweak this and make it your own.”

    The bare minimum and the wide main page is why I chose this template. But there are some things left out like the dimensions of the main page, sidebar, and header (how that can be so, I don’t know). I have no idea what the dimensions are of the total page. Also, the sidebar seems to come with two sections of fonts… where do I tweak this and define the fonts I want?

    I have worked with CSS Stylesheets with other blogs not of WordPress and with discussion forms. This WordPress CSS Stylesheet is difficult to figure out with some of it wording for what is in the blog. What is what?

    So, I will patiently wait and hope that someone can give some suggestions concerning this template as to where I can tweak it. Tweak it not only the sidebar (font and dimensions) but the header dimensions.

    Try modifying this id selector:

    #menu ul ul li a {
    	color:#fff;
    	border-bottom:1px solid;
    }

    This selector controls the appearance of your sidebar. Just add other properties you want it to have.

    Hmm… can’t edit my last reply. I made a typo. I meant: “discussion forums” in working with CSS Stylesheets.

    Any help will be so appreciated! :)

    Also, in some themes, not all elements will be defined. I would recommend you to use Aardvark (it’s a Firefox extension) that highlights all elements in a page and tells you what is what. To test and modify your CSS on-the-fly (without saving anything), try Web Developer. These two tools are very helpful and can help you a lot with your CSS stuff.

    Thank you very much, devblog, for your suggestions.

    I bookmarked both Aardvark and Web Developer. I don’t use Firefox though I do have it. I mainly use IE7. But I can switch to Firefox and use it… especially if I add any extensions.

    Can anyone leave a tag for a post made in the forums? I just checked this thread that I had started and noticed the tag ‘shitface’. I didn’t put that tag in. Someone being funny, no?

    Anyone can add tags. If you tag the thread modlook (I have) they’ll remove the offensive one.

    By ‘they’ I mean ‘the moderators’.
