sidebar font size

    Hari OM!

    Namaste to everyone!

I am new to blogging and also to HTML programming.

When I created my initial posts/pages they were all displayed with very small font-size quite unreadable at the sidebar where the widgets are also displayed. So, I just clicked the HTML display for my page and found the HTML code ther. Without realizing I just copied a small part of the HTML code wherin the font-size was mentioned. Thinking that it will resolve my problem, I just copied that piece of code as the first part of my page/post. What a surprise! The particular page I was editing showed up the sidebar with enlarged fontsize which was very much readable and quite appealing to the eyes.

Thinking that I got the right technique, I just copied this piece of code to every page/post as the first part of code. A bigger surprise was in store for me! While some pages/posts appeared with enlarged fontsize at the sidebar, others were like the original- very small font-size quite unreadable at the sidebar.

I don’t know what to do, and I am seeking the help of all of you. You can visit my home page and see for yourself the very small fonts at the sidebar, while the About page and Event Highlights are with big fonts at the sidebar.

The code that I pasted which works differently is as follows :

    <p class=”MsoNormal” style=”margin:0 .5in 6pt;”><span style=”font-weight:normal;font-size:12pt;font-family:verdana;”><span> </span>

    Thank you in advance!

I’m having a sidebar font issue too – but it’s nothing to do with any pasting. My blog has been fine for months but for some reason only in Internet Explored the side bar widget fonts have become gigantic. Ideas?? Thanks,
    Julie

When you copy and paste from pre-formatted text—not just Word, you are likely introducing exteraneous code into your posts. Some of that code will do weird things to your blog, things you are not controlling: odd sidebars, different fonts in each post, etc.

To get rid of it, (in each post) in the visual editor, highlight all the text and use the format eraser. If you are lucky, that will work. The more drastic method is to copy all the text of a post, then switch to HTML, select all, delete, and paste. Then go back to the visual editor and re-format your text. You will have to re-do links and insert pictures.

    Hari OM!

    Namste to everyone!

    Thanks shri/smt. 1tess!

I just compared the html code between two pages 1. Which was showing readable font-size 2) which was showing unreadable font-size.

I found some extra code, terminating tags like </span>, without corresponding opening tags.

I just deleted these surplus codes, and Bang! The page sidebar was displaying good readable font-size!

Thanks 1tess for your suggestions and I shall keep them in mind for proper editing.

I am happy that finally it worked.

So happy it worked for you.

To prevent future problems, if you are pasting from a formated source or from Word, use the “paste from Word” or “paste as plain text” tools on the second row of the the visual editor.
If you think the normal text of your posts is too small, there is proper code that you can use to make it larger.
    <span style="font-size:1.6em">TITLE_HERE</span>
I only use it for titles, but if you want it for a whole post, I think you’d use div instead of span in the code. 1.6em is very large, but you can experiment with the number to adjust to your taste.

Also, consider linking your name to your blog:
    2. How to make your name link to your blog:
Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.
