sidebar for music

    Hi
    I’m relatively new to wordpress
I’m a musician and I want to use my blog to showcase my pieces
I’ve added the 5G space upgrade to host mp3s
Now I want to know how to simply post up my pieces tidily in a player of some kind, which I’d like to put up as a sidebar to the main blog, so it would be handy for visitors to have a listen as they read
    Can anyone help?

First we need a link to your wordpress.COM blog.

And if you are hosted here, you cannot use the music player in your sidebar. Please review the FAQ on how to add music to your blog for details.

    Hi

    My blog is http://pqrsmusic.wordpress.com/

My main concern is really that I don’t want to have to post music in the main blog body as it will move down as I blog, I’d like it to stay in view in a sidebar.
I’m not too worried at this point if there is a player or not. It’s fine if they are displayed in the same way as the piece I posted in the main blog, I really just want them in some sort of sidebar to keep them in place…

    Thanks

You just want a link? Then just write the link the same way as you wrote the one for the post. Put it in a text widget. (If you need to know how to write the link, start by looking at the HTML in that post of yours.)

As for the player in POSTS, again, please review the FAQ. If you code it properly, the player will display.

My main question is one of layout

How do I make a sidebar?

I can then post music in the sidebar

Do I need to use a certain theme?
Wordpress and blogging in general are both new to me you see

    Thanks again

You don’t MAKE a sidebar: the theme you’re using HAS a sidebar, and you add items to it in Appearance > Widgets.

As for your mp3s, I would suggest you use the wp audio player in a suitably named PAGE you’ll create. This way you’ll have a permanent tab for this page up top in the header.

Is it possible to post links in a sidebar rather than widgets?

Or is there even a music player widget I could put in the sidebar? That would make more sense…

    – There’s no such thing as “links in a sidebar rather than widgets”: sidebar content is exactly what widgets are for.

    – Yes of course you can have links in your sidebar – various sorts of them. For the type you mean, you must add a text widget and paste them there. You’ll need html coding for links, also for line breaks or blank lines. As an alternative, you can first create and format them in an unpublished post, copy the result from its html editor and paste it in the text widget.

    – I don’t know if there are any third-party audio players that will work in the sidebar.
