Sidebar Formatted as Header in Stewart Theme
-
Hi, I’m new to WordPress, and I chose the Stewart theme for it’s sidebar, but when I view my site, or use the site editor, the information that would usually make up the sidebar is put into a header.
This seems to be an issue with either the site editor or the themes templates? When I go to the templates section of the site editor, and select “Sidebar and Footer Only” it does change, but when I save the changes, it only goes back to the template “Header and Footer Only.” I can’t make the sidebar template stay. Additionally, switching the template doesn’t seem to register as a change on its own, as it won’t allow me to save until I make additional changes, such as rewriting text.
As mentioned, I am new to WordPress, so I have no idea if this is due to my lack of knowledge, or if somethings actually wrong. I really like the Stewart theme and would hate to have to change to something else. Thanks in advance for any advice or help!

Hey there! We’ll help you get this untangled.
First, Stewart is designed to show the latest articles on the front page. Is that how you’d like your site set up as well, or do you need the front page to be more static (like an About page?)
If you’ll be displaying articles, please go here:
https://wordpress.com/postMake a few test articles, even if they’re fake with junk text, just so we’ll have something to work with, and publish them. Or you can make real articles; whatever works for you.
Then, go here:
https://jekyllsjoint.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.phpChoose to display the latest posts.
That _might_ resolve the problem right off, but if it doesn’t, we have more steps we can try, so let us know. OR, if you wanted to just have a static page instead as your front page, let us know and we’ll go from there.

Thank you so much for your reply and warm welcome to WordPress! I am looking to make the front page a static one, so I’m curious to know how I’d solve it that way.

Sure! I think in this case it may just be that you have the wrong page template selected. So edit the page, tap the gear on the right, make sure you have the Page tab selected, and then look for the template settings. You might try Default or Sidebar and Footer Only, for example. Save that, then view the page.
If the sidebar doesn’t appear still, you might consider reverting your template modifications here:
