Sidebar has disappeared

    My sidebar has disappeared (well, gone to the bottom of my front page) — and I’ve already searched, and tried many of the suggestions (to no avail).

    Earlier today I tried to add a Paypal button to my sidebar (http://www.danwoog06880.com), which involved pasting HTML code into a text widget. Apparently that can cause problems if improperly entered — I’m sure that’s what caused the “lowering to the bottom” of my sidebar. So I deleted the text, AND removed that text widget. I also tried temporarily making only one post viewable at a time on my front page; that didn’t work either. My sidebar IS visible on individual posts, but it remains at the bottom of the front page with multiple posts. Any thoughts?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    When sidebar fall it’s usually becasue you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor. Please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    This can also be a result of importing text containing invalid HTML. Typically this is caused by an open HTML tag in one of your posts.

    Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

    Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

    If it’s not, then look for an open HTML tag and close it. Check your blog again and see if it is back to normal. If it’s still “messed up” then open the next post and do the same thing post by post until it goes back to normal.

    THANKS, universalgeni and timethief. I had actually followed (or tried to) those very instructions from the WordPress support pages, but somehow it didn’t work until I followed timethief’s response. Gracias.

    @dwoog
    I have logged out and noticed that my blogging tips blog link to my username and wearing the Inuit Types theme displays properly in Firefox 3.6.16 but when viewed in IE8 the sidebar is displaying below my posts. The setting on Writing page > WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” is enabled. I have not imported any content and I have not copy pasted any content.

    My personal blog http://thistimethisspace.com is wearing the same Inuit Types theme. It’s set up exactly the same way with WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”enabled on my Writing page. There has been no imported content or copy pasted content placed into it,. Guess what? It’s displaying properly in both IE8 and in Firefox 3.6.16.

    IMO there is a problem here that Staff need to address so I’m creating a support ticket here. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
