Sidebar in plane theme?
-
Hi there –
After an exchange with melindahelt, I ended up changing my theme to Plane. Then I noticed that my archive and blogroll widgets weren’t in the sidebar where I was sure I added them, but way down at the bottom. Anyone know what’s up?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
It looks like you’ve figured this out. I see these widgets in your sidebar. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Hi lizkarkoski –
Um, no, I really haven’t figured it out. What browser or device did you use? I just use a traditional pc and I have two browsers: IE 11 and what should be the latest firefox. In either case I don’t get a sidebar at all and the two widgets are at the bottom.
Curious, it is…

Hi again –
Here is a screen shot of your site: https://cloudup.com/cP1QiNvr5zQ You’ll see the widgets in the side bar.
Can you try clearing your browser cache? https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

Hi there lizkarkoski (sorry but I think I got your name wrong before.
Thanks for getting back to me. You never said what browser or device you used to get that screenshot. So I really can’t compare.
You suggest clearing my cache. That’s a real problem. It seems every time I do that I have to redo my online banking creds. And they have a new system which is even more messy than before.
I’m thinking that theme should have sidebars – at least when I customized it allowed me that option. So why isn’t mine on the side? Yup those widgets are still at the bottom.

Howdy –
I am using Mac and Chrome. The site is displaying properly for me with the widgets in the right sidebar. Just like the theme demo site: https://planedemo.wordpress.com/
What device are you using? If it is a tablet or mobile then you may be viewing the mobile view of the site. In that situation, the widgets are pushed to the bottom so that your site content can be displayed cleanly, rather than smushed together with the widgets.

Hi lizkarkroski –
Thanks for the reply!
As I indicated in a post above I’m using a PC with either IE11 or Firefox. Both browsers display site with the widgets at the bottom!
From your last sentence, it sounds as though for some reason my browsers or whatever might be viewing the site as a mobile one. Is there any way to check for that or change it? Other than that I feel pretty satisfied with the way the blog is… hope I don’t have to go trying another different theme!

Hi there –
Ah, yes, thanks for mentioning the browsers again. I overlooked that in my reply.
After some testing the widgets will appear at the bottom of the site if window is smaller than 1024 wide.

Hi again lizkarkoski –
Still trying to get your name correct.
Sorry for such a delay but I think you hit it! :-) I use a larger view for my eyesight and when I brought it back to 100%, the widgets went right over to the side!
I’d say we’re ALMOST resolved, for I so have just one more follow-up question. That didn’t seem to happen with the other themes – at least the one I had been using for a while (chateau? I think it was…) Is that a thing for just plane theme or for most others?
I’ll just have to mull over then, what I want to do. I like the theme and since for most people viewing the blog, things would be in their proper places. So it might be ok to stick with it…. ah, decisions :-)
Thanks!

No worries about the name :) I’m glad we have figured out the activity of the widgets on the page. A theme that uses footer widgets may be of interest.

Hi lizkarkoski –
Well, I do try to get names right. Thanks for being understanding.
Footer widgets? Well, I think for now I’ll keep it as is: maybe later on I’ll try out some other themes again. Technology is such fun.
Take care.

I’ll close this thread for now. If you need us again just open a new one and add the ‘modlook’ tag for staff assistance. Take care and best wishes :)
