Hi there,
I can see your sidebar active on your blog here: http://bergmanncs.com/
Here’s what it looks like to me: https://cloudup.com/c4XYG8j1lFd
I did notice that your tweets aren’t appearing in your Twitter Timeline Widget, though. We have a guide for setting up that widget here: Twitter Timeline Widget
In particular, please double-check the widget ID you have entered there. We have instructions for finding your widget ID here: http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/twitter-timeline-widget/#widget-id
If you have any trouble with that, or if you have any other questions about your sidebar, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help further. :)

Rachel, Thanks, but:
shouldn’t the Flounder theme have two sidebars?
My dashboard-Appearance-Widget site has only one sidebar (and the widgets) nothing else. There was an “inactive sidebar” in the beginning, but it disappeared after I activated the widgets in it.
Everything you see on the left side of the page is generated via menus.
and for twitter: what you describe is what I’ve been trying to do – activating the twitter widget.
I’ve setup the twitter widget many times – it never worked. (spent hours yesterday)
(The preview in Twitter seems to not work either, though.)
Here is my twitter generated html:
Tweets by @BergmannCS
<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?’http’:’https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+”://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”);</script>I did this – again – this morning. Pasted the number into the widget. It does not work.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Christina

Hi Christina,
shouldn’t the Flounder theme have two sidebars?
No, the Flounder theme only has one sidebar, to the right of the page. The column on the left is for the menu.
Under Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard, you’ll see that one sidebar where you can add widgets. You’ll also see a list of available widgets and (underneath those available widgets) a list of inactive widgets.
You can read more about the Flounder theme and its options on the Flounder theme page or take a look at the Flounder demo site. Please let me know if you have any other questions about that.
I’ve setup the twitter widget many times – it never worked.
I just went back to your blog, and now I see your Twitter Timeline there. Here’s a screenshot: https://cloudup.com/c3y4EgWfKOY
I’m not sure if it was a glitch with the widget or with Twitter, but now it’s working. :) Please let me know if you have any trouble seeing it on your blog now.

Rachel, Thanks again. I appreciate your comments and help.
about the twitter timeline:
I see it when I open my page in Opera, but still not in IE or Firefox….
I am cluesless.
This is what the description says about Flounder (see below)
and it mentions TWO sidebars (left-sidebar, right-sidebar) – was that a misunderstanding? How would I find a theme with two sidebars, left and right? how should the description look like? and what would be a stable theme where I don’t run into issues like with the twitter widget? would it be better to host the site externally?THANKS!

Hi Christina,
I see it when I open my page in Opera, but still not in IE or Firefox….
Can you check to make sure you have Flash enabled in IE and Firefox? If you’re not sure, you can open this page in each browser to find out: http://supportdetails.com/
You’ll need Flash for the timeline to appear on your blog. If Flash is enabled and it’s still not working, please let me know the exact version of IE and Firefox you’re using, along with the version of Flash you’re using. I can use that information to investigate this. :)
This is what the description says about Flounder (see below)
and it mentions TWO sidebars (left-sidebar, right-sidebar) – was that a misunderstanding?Ah, thank you for including the information that you read about Flounder. The theme tags you saw mention a left sidebar and a right sidebar, because the sidebar on the Flounder theme moves to the left or right depending on your screen size. (You can see how that works by adjusting your screen size to see how the layout changes.) It doesn’t mean that there are two sidebars, just that the sidebar can be on either the left or right.
How would I find a theme with two sidebars, left and right?
In most cases, a theme with a three-column layout and both left and right sidebar options will have two sidebars. (Flounder is a bit of a rare case in that sense.) You can look through blogs with those features in the theme showcase here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/left-sidebar+right-sidebar+three-columns/
You can hover over each theme and click on the theme’s name to read a more detailed description about that theme. For example, the Twenty Fourteen theme has two sidebars, left and right. On the theme description page, in the Widget section, you’ll see that it mentions the two sidebars.
and what would be a stable theme where I don’t run into issues like with the twitter widget? would it be better to host the site externally?
The twitter widget issue is actually separate from the theme. That’s a browser issue that you’d run into with any theme (and even if you hosted the site elsewhere). I’m happy to keep troubleshooting that issue with you, to fix it up. :) Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Rachel, THANK YOU.
I think I’ve got everything solved now.
I had flash enabled in both browsers, but your remark led me to checking and finding out that my anti-virus program was blocking the twitterfeed…. I changed the setting, and: voilá. I have it in both browsers.
As for Flounder: well, it seems I have a tendency to hit rare cases…
” (Flounder is a bit of a rare case in that sense.)”
I really like the look and feel of Flounder, but will check out the other themes you mentioned and decide which one I will work with.
Thank you again for patiently and extensively taking care of my two problems. And solving them. The good thing: I learned a lot about WordPress now after spending all those hours of trying to find what was wrong ;)
Have a nice day!
RegardsChristina

You’re very welcome, Christina. :) I’m glad I could help — and good thought about the anti-virus program blocking Flash. Whew!
I think Flounder is a gorgeous theme, too. The good news is you can switch back and forth between themes as much as you’d like to test them out, until you find the right one for you. And, since you have the WordPress.com Premium upgrade, you can use our Custom Design features like custom colors and fonts to change the feel of any theme you choose.
Now that I’ve given you even more things to try out and learn about, I’ll stop there. ;) But if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again. Have a great day!
