  On my homepage and the rest of the pages on my website I want to have a couple widgets running down the right hand side which show recent activity from separate categories i.e, recent news, latest reviews, etc. The only widgets I found that come close to what I want instantly update the widgets with every post as I publish them and I can’t seem to organise each widget for specific categories.

  Is there a way to do this?

  All WordPress.COM blogs have built in RSS/Atom feeds.

  Go to https://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/#your-feeds and note the example provided there.
  Category: http://NAME_OF_YOUR_BLOG/category/features/feed/ (“Features” is the category.)

  You can use RSS widgets https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/
