Hi @parthasadhukhan,
I hope you are well today and thanks for posting on the forums.
I can see the left sidebar is displayed in the left side of your site http://parthasadhukhan.wordpress.com/ but it’s not widget ready.
All other 4 widget ready sidebars are displayed in the bottom of the page.
Kind Regards,

Hi,
I’m using for the first time the columnist theme. Could you tell me how can I organize articles in pages as you did ?
When I create a new article, it appears only on the main page. I can’t archive it on pages.
Thank you for your reply.
My wordpress is papageno-suicide.com -
@f2rsm, when you create a post and add a category, a category archive page is created automatically.
Here is an example from your blog:
http://papageno-suicide.com/category/non-classe/It’s possible to add a category to a custom menu. Here’s a help page that explains how to do it:

Thanks for your reply.
Do you mean that “Feminism in India” (cf parthasa ‘blog) is a category ? I don’t think so : it’s a page, isn’t.
I just try to organize articles in pages as he did. And I think, you’re right, articles can just be organize by categories.
In pages, I can just wright text.In fact, I want to access to a menu in pages. If you go to http://papageno-suicide.com and then choose “salle de presse”, you can see that I organize a parent page (communiqués de presse). But if you choose, “salle de presse”, you can’t directly access to “communiqués de presse”. you have to go back home and then choose “communiqués de presse”.
That’s why I’d liked to see parent-pages appears in pages.Sorry for my english, I expect you’ll understand me :)

With the more specific example, I think I understand what you mean now.
On parthasadhukhan’s blog, “Feminism in India” is a category not a page. The easiest way to tell is by looking at the URL, which contains the word “category” in it. Here is an example:
http://parthasadhukhan.wordpress.com/category/feminism-in-india/On The Columnist theme, there is not a way to add a menu to posts or pages because there is no setting to add that provided by the theme. This is just how this theme happens to be designed. If you don’t like that and would like to try a similar theme instead, you might consider the Suburbia theme:

We’re trying to decide if we should purchase Columnist 2.0 theme. We’d like a twitter feed and a word cloud on the home page. From comments above, it sounds like we could put one widget in the left column of the home page and then other would need to be at the bottom of the home page. But I haven’t seen examples. Is this true and how do I find examples of how it would look before I spend the money to buy it?

Hi reactservices, you’ve posted in a WordPress.com forum and we have a theme here called The Columnist, but not Columnist 2.0.
Here is the one we have available:
https://wordpress.com/themes/the-columnist/In The Columnist theme on WordPress.com, the widget areas do not appear in any area where multiple posts appear. Because of this, you wouldn’t be able to put widgets like a Twitter feed or word cloud on the home page of that theme.
I looked for another similar column-centric theme, and I found Suburbia. However, it also doesn’t have the option to put widgets on the home page.
https://en.wordpress.com/themes/suburbia/I noticed a lot of the grid-heavy type themes often focus on the content and not widgets on the home page.
https://en.wordpress.com/themes/search/grid/You might really like Gridspace. It does have a space for widgets in the sidebar on the home page, so I think it would work well for the widget setup you described:

designsimply…thanks so much for your prompt response. I found The Columnist 2.0 which was released on 1 June 2014 by going to the theme’s homepage (which you gave the link for) and then clicking on the author name. It redirects to this page: http://thecolumnist.info/
In reading the page http://thecolumnist.info/news/version-control/, it seems to indicate that widgets on the home page might be possible — that’s what I was trying to confirm — but it isn’t clear: “Flexible footer and widget areas”. If true, it’s worth the $40! I’ve emailed the contact given on the page but no response yet. Any more guidance is appreciated since we’re newbies!

Ah, I see. The link you clicked on, the theme author link, is separate from WordPress.com. Sorry that’s confusing!
So this still stands:
Here is the one we have available: https://wordpress.com/themes/the-columnist/
In The Columnist theme on WordPress.com, the widget areas do not appear in any area where multiple posts appear.
Sorry it might not be the answer you were looking for! If you wanted to setup the theme you found at http://thecolumnist.info/ then you would need to do a WordPress.org setup, which is separate from WordPress.com. Here is a page that talks more about the differences in case that helps you with your decision: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Or if you want to stick to WordPress.com (I would love that!) then take a look at the alternate themes I suggested earlier. One of those might work for you!
If you have any other questions after checking out that WordPress.com vs WordPress.org help page, please let me know.
