Sidebar overlapping with home page text (Panel Theme)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Please help!

    Hey everyone,

    I would like to have a static (full width) home page, but the sidebar overlaps with the text on the page, if I set it to full width. (see here: http://becomingyourselfyoga.com/)

    If I set to default template, there’s no overlap, but I have the sidebar.

    Please, please, does anyone know how to remove the sidebar (and possibly the blog posts that appear below the home page text), so the page would eventually look like this: http://becomingyourselfyoga.com/home/

    Thank you sooooo much!!

    Maja

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    You can easily correct this when you have the upgrade, but it shouldn’t be happening at all: it’s a mistake on this theme, so it needs to be fixed by WP, for all users. I’m modlooking this for staff attention.

    Hi justpi,

    Thanks for your answer!

    I do have the upgrade. And I also wrote to customer support, but they told me that’s how it’s supposed to be. That I should just use the default layout instead of the full width. :P

    Do you have any suggestion what else I could do?

    You’re welcome.
    I know you have the upgrade. And no, that’s not how it’s supposed to be.
    But when I first replied I didn’t notice that your homepage displays a static page as well as your posts. That’s not how it’s supposed to be either, and it’s not a mistake in the theme, it’s a mistake in your settings: you’ve set the same page as your front page and as your posts page. Go to Settings > Reading, select your intro page from the “Front page” pulldown, select the Blog page from the “Posts page” pulldown, scroll down and click Save Settings.

    Thanks for taking the time for this! I really appreciate it.

    I checked again my settings and I already have them as you suggested. The thing is, that if I would set the page as default, the text would be more narrow and the sidebar wouldn’t overlap.

    But since I selected the full width, the sidebar overlaps. I set the other pages to full width also, but there is no problem there.

    But I want to have the full width and really like this theme…

    I don’t know what else to do… Should I write to customer support again? Or is someone from WP here on the forum….

    Go to Settings > Reading please: there should be a warning that says “these pages should not be the same!”
    Which page have you selected as your front page and which page have you selected as your posts page?

    My front page is the page that overlaps with the sidebar and the posts page is Blog.

    I get no warning.

    Then we’re back to square one: this is a mistake that needs to be fixed by WP. In the meantime you can remove the sidebar from your homepage by pasting this into the CSS editor:

    .home #secondary {
    display: none;
    }

    WOW you are a genius!!!

    It works!! :)

    Sooo thankful!

    You’re welcome!
    If you want to remove the posts too, then add this:

    .featured-news-title, .home .hentry.type-post {
    display: none;
    }

    Ha, now this even better!

    Thank you again! :)

  • Thank you both for this report. This does look like a bug with the theme, and I’ve brought it to our developers.

    We’ll let you know once it’s fixed so you can remove the bit of custom CSS that’s now hiding the sidebar.
