Sidebar pushed to bottom of page
-
I just added a new text widget, with a linked image, and now my sidebar is pushed all the way to the bottom of my blog page. I can’t even see the sidebar until I scroll a pretty far way down.
How do I fix this? Even after removing that widget, my sidebar is still pushed down. This is very aggravating…
Help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First off you are using uppercase HTML tags and attributes (IMG SRC, ALT etc.) in an XHTML document (wordpress is XHTML 1.0 Transitional), and that is not allowed. All tags and attributes must be lowercase. You need to correct that in all your text widgets.
The code in most of your text widgets is incorrect and is causing errors. As an example, this is what you have for your email icon:
<a href="mailto:(email visible only to moderators and staff)" target="_blank"><IMG width="75" SRC="http://sarahmartina.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/email.gif" ALT="EMAIL ME"></a>and this is what it should be:
<a href="mailto:(email visible only to moderators and staff)" target="_blank"><img width="75" src="http://sarahmartina.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/email.gif" alt="EMAIL ME" /></a>Not that after “EMAIL ME” there is a space and then a / and then the closing >? Also note that I changed the uppercase HTML tags to lowercase.

Ok… I’ll make the changes. Thank so much.
This coding has been that way for months, though. Why is it now causing my sidebar to appear at the bottom of the page?

Right now your main blog page has 115 XHTML errors. You mentioned adding an image to the sidebar, but didn’t say which one so I cannot look at that specific code.
Generally if you add a widget and then the sidebar goes to the bottom of the page, there is an issue with either image width in that sidebar or the code has errors.

I removed the image thinking it was the cause of all this.
I thought that would fix the issue, so I’m not going through my widgets and correcting the problems you noted before.

Ok, I fixed the uppercase tags, and added the ” /” where you noted.
Still no change in the placement of my sidebar. It’s kind of odd that this is happening. I only added that one widget, and then removed it. So why would the problem be lingering?
Will changing the theme/template help? I need this to be fixed…

I spoke with 2 other people, and they said my sidebar appears normal to them. Perhaps it has something to do with my computer.
I had them clear their cache and look again, but it still looked fine on their end.
Hopefully when I get to my personal computer, it will be fine.

Did you clear your browser cache, restart your browser and then look again. Some browsers will hang onto cached pages even if you refresh the page.
W3C validator is still reporting 77 errors. Some have to do with more image link errors, and some have to do with break tags. With break tags, you have to use the self-closing XHTML style
<br />Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”
Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, click on the HTML tab, then click back on the visual tab, and then click “update post.” Check your blog and if it is back to normal, you are golden. If not, open the next post and do the same thing till it goes back to normal.
You should really go through all the posts on your main page this way so that the bulk of the errors get corrected.
-
Even if it is fine, you should go through the above procedure to correct the errors. They have a cumulative effect, and if your blog gets too many errors, there is a chance the Google will stop crawling it.

Just FYI, I’m not seeing the issue in Firefox or Safari, but I can’t check in Internet Explorer since I’ve already packed my PC laptops away for a move. IE will do this where other browsers are more forgiving of mistakes in code.
