Sidebar text floating into main column in Chateau theme

    Starting on 5 June images and text from the sidebar of the Chateau theme appear overlapping the main text. In the following image, the letter ε and the text next to the paragraphs beginning “ian shaw” and “they have the” are out of place.

    I disable Javascript by default, but enabling it does not help. I am using Firefox 76 on a wide screen on Ubuntu. Was the theme CSS recently updated?

    Hi there,

    I don’t see the issue at all using Firefox 76 on MacOS on a wide monitor, so this is likely something local to your browser or computer.

    Can you check if you see the same issue viewing your site in a private window, or using Chrome?

    Was the theme CSS recently updated?

    Chateau was retired several years ago, so it’s not being updated at all any more except for critical security patches. That in itself will cause the theme to break over time, but as it’s working fine for me I don’t believe that’s the cause here.

    When you were unable to reproduce, was the trackback by E K visible at all? I unapproved the trackback comment and the problem went away.

    When I re-approved it, I saw the issue in Firefox 72 on Windows and IE 11 on Windows and a private window in Firefox 76 on Ubuntu.

    I was not able to reproduce what you’re seeing at all. The site appeared fine to me.

    Now I am able to see the problem, so whatever you changed in the meantime is what’s causing this.

    Do you mean the pingback appearing in your recent comments widget?

    It looks like it’s the favicon of that site that’s getting pulled in as a profile picture along with that pingback that’s causing problems with the widget – the widget is correctly attempting to resize that image to 48×48 pixels, but the image is being sent by the source site in a way that prevents this. So I’m afraid this doesn’t look like something we can fix from our end – that site is doing something weird that’s overriding what we do on this side.

    I think for now it’s probably best to not approve that pingback until you’ve had a few more comments on your site that would push it out of the widget.
