Sidebar Widget Not Working
-
I started working on my blog theprincessoffemme.wordpress.com yesterday. For most of the day all of the things I put in the side widget area worked. Then at some random point in the night it all moved as if it is was a normal post. I have tried moving them out of the sidebar and back, and nothing has worked. I don’t know what to do. Can anyone help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you be a little more specific? What widgets moved out of the sidebar area?
I see you have the Custom Design upgrade. Did you change content and/or sidebar width?
-
I have the same issue. I had a sidebar of widgets this morning. After returning home tonight, the sidebar has disappeared.
However, when I open the appearance/widgets — all of my sidebar widgets are still listed in order of appearance.
But NOT ONE shows up on the blog. Never happened before to me.

@chaplynne – Your problem is in your last post. There is some extra HTML code there that has knocked the entire sidebar to the bottom.
Please read this Support document for suggestions on how to fix it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/layout-issues/

I haven’t changed the width of anything that should be in the sidebar. I have a text, instagram, archives and categories. Those have shifted from the sidebar.
-
I recommend reviewing the same Support document that I mentioned to @chaplynne. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/layout-issues/ There may be extra HTML in your post that is causing this issue. You can look for it in the Post Editor’s Text tab.
If that doesn’t work for you, please let us know.

Your only post is likely the problem then. :) Follow the instructions in the Support doc from Point 4.

Thank you so much @Justjennifer for your thoughtful response.
I had gone to that, before I posted here. However, even after following it step by step, I could not locate the post. Though I changed my settings to one post, it continued to show them all…and my sidebar had slipped far down the list. I repeated the steps.
I tried all the steps–many times. No success. I put in a request here and after a while a support request.
In the meantime, on another issue, I decided to copy a friend’s blog style and have my posts break to say ‘read more’…
I corrected three posts with a ‘read more’ break.
Ironically, my sidebar leaped back to the top.
So although I followed all of the instructions WP gave, the gitch persisted. Hours later, I added the ‘read more’ to a post and when I viewed the post after updating, I found the sidebar had returned.
Go figure. But “YAY!” anyway.
At any rate, your idea was exactly what WP says to do. I can’t say why it didn’t turn out like they said it would. I could never find the <div> and yet, I am happy it is resolved for now. When support returns, maybe they can explain.
Thanks again, @justjennifer. You know your stuff.

Hi there,
Sidebars and widgets in them do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless
(1) content has been imported into the blog
(2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
(3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open
After you go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”See here for sorting this out > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/sidebar-at-the-bottom-and-related-issues/

I added two images into my library and then added them to the post. None of the other issues apply. I am still having the same problem
-
Hopefully you understand you must edit the post and switch to the HTML editor, then locate the bit of code that’s causing your issue and remove it.
-
None of the other issues apply.
Have you or have you not done this?
go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically

@theprincessoffemme:
The auto-correct option in Settings > Writing works for posts and pages only, not for text widgets. Go to Appearance > Widgets, open the “Follow The Princess On” widget, delete this and save:
</div>PS This post of mine is more thorough than the Support doc:
