sidebar widget option doesn't appear in Customizer
-
Hi there, on my blog the sidebar contains a search field, and this text: “TEXT WIDGET This is a text widget, which allows you to add text or HTML to your sidebar. You can use them to display text, links, images, HTML, or a combination of these. Edit them in the Widget section of the Customizer.”
In the Customizer, I am getting an option to add widgets to the footer (in 3 sections), but not to the sidebar. Can you advise? ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The Baskerville theme guide says:
Baskerville has three widget areas in the footer; it also has one widget area in the sidebar, which appears on pages and single posts.
I recall from another topic I responded to not long ago that on certain themes (or at least one theme) a particular widget area might not appear at Customize > Widgets unless you switch to one of the content areas — in this a static page or a single post — that will display that particular widget area. The sidebar widget area, in this case, will not display if at Customize the posts (blog) page, or an archives page, are displayed.
When I first discovered that this occurs I suggested to a staff member that it must be a glitch. However, the staff member informed me that it was probably an intentional design feature.

I mean it won’t appear at Customize > Widgets if the posts (blog) page, or an archives pages is displayed there (at Customize). It only appears if a single post or a page is displayed there.

I think it is a little bit of a glitch, because I wasn’t able to get the option to edit sidebar widgets no matter what post or page was being displayed – until I switched the blog to “static front page.” I then edited the sidebar widgets and changed the setting back to “latest posts.” Thanks for the tip – it is working fine now (although I’ll have to change it back to static front page if I want to change the sidebar).

You’re welcome.
My test site had a static front page when I tested it before. After reading your last post, I went back and switched the front page setting. With the front page displaying the posts page, I entered Customize and predictably found that the Sidebar Widget area was missing. However, I could make it show by opening the menu and clicking on any post, page, or even a project (which I happened to have several of). So I didn’t obtain the same results you report. In my tests, with either front page setting, I could easily make the sidebar widget area appear or disappear at Customize > Widgets, the result being dependent upon the type of content I clicked on.
