Sidebar widget problem
-
I’m having a problem with my sidebar in my single post pages. It’s pushed all the way to the bottom. Here’s an example: http://www.basketballjohn.com/2008/01/03/recap-philadelphia-76ers-utah-jazz-3-january-2008/ . I think one of my widgets is causing it, but I can’t find the right one. But if I restore it to the defaults for the theme, it still does it. What file and code should I be looking for?
Thanks.

Since you are self-hosted and using the software downloaded from wordpress.org, you need to direct your question to http://wordpress.org/support/ . WordPress.com uses a multi-user version of the software which is different and few, if any, here know anything about it.

Will do. I just figured it was related to a theme issue and someone here might know something.

I’m having the same issue as well. I can replace my widgets, but the sidebar is stuck at the bottom of my page.

@smithofthelongfield: I’m not sure if this is the problem but you have an image in your “comical side of revenge post” that’s too large. If an image is too large, it can knock the sidebar to the bottom and disrupt the layout of the blog. Try going into that post and making the image smaller so that it fits inside the post properly.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/If that’s not the problem, when did it start? Did it start with your last post? If you’re not sure, try going to Dashboard > Options > Reading and change the settings for “Blog Pages”. Reduce it by one each time until you see the sidebar return. The last post that was removed is likely the one causing the problems. Try editing it and copying everything into notepad, then go into code and delete everything, then copy it back from notepad. That should remove any formatting and hopefully fix it.

@mouelhizied: when I click on your username, your blog and sidebar look fine to me. Has this been resolved? Can you give us more details on the problem?

I suppose we have all the same problem. The widgets or their content is modifiying the CSS standard . But I don´t know a solution. Maybe it will be use the standard layer without widgets…

@onairosjs: I just had a look at your blog and it looks fine to me. The two sidebars are in the right place and the widgets seem fine. Do you have a link to a post which is the problem?

cjwriter: The image has been up ther for a while now, and until this morning it had never affected the layout. To troubleshoot, I removed all the widgets from my sidebar, and then started adding them back, one by one. I never got it back that way. So, I finally quit, leaving my Top Post widget on the sidebar, and the sidebar at the bottom of the page. Miraculously, three hours later, the sidebar reappeared, on the side. Thinking it was all fixed, I added my other widgets back, and the sidebar went back to the bottom of the page… So sad…

cjwriter: I lowered the number of blog pages to four, and the sidebar came back. Thanks for the help!

You’re problem is that you copied stuff in from probably the internet on your post “It’s happening at a jail…” In the blockquote that begins with “the associated press” copy all that text out and into a plain text editor (notepad or textedit) then copy that text back out from the plain text program and replace the text in the blockquote. That will strip out all the code that is causing the problems.
From now on, use the “paste as plain text” option on the extended toolbar when pasting something in from off the web. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/

i’m having the same problem, with my widgets being on the bottom of my page. i tried changing the size of photos, changing the number of posts shown. nothing works. the widgets are on the bottom in any theme i use. this started yesterday after i changed themes from one i was using before to the one i’m using now.

The Happy holidays image is too wide for the theme you are using.

Your widget content all seems to be overlapping the post area and I noticed they are all aligned right. Try adjusting the widgets to be align left and see if that gets the content out of the way.

Did you make CSS changes to your previous theme or to this one? The reason I ask is that the background on white as milk is usually white and in firebug I’m seeing CSS changes.
-
i made a css change but i didn’t save it. this was in the previous theme…before i switched to white as milk.
is there a way to get back to the default css style sheet?
-
Did you have the CSS upgrade? If you did, go into presentation > edit css remove everything from the edit CSS window and then make sure “add to existing CSS” is selected and click “Save.”
